As for the white tool boxes getting dirty.

A good coat of car wax on the box when you first buy it should go a long way in keeping it fairly clean.

I went the wire-rack direction for my pliers rack, and though I needed to make some small modifications (adding wooden "feet" to the corners to sit it at the desired height), my $10 wire rack investment resulted in two pliers racks, versus one at $20.

The HF rack looks nice, but in the end, it's pricier than what I would expect for what the product really is. I'm sure there will be folks buying them out of convenience, but I have doubts it'll be a hot seller.

I’m usually patient, but this is ridiculous. I’m very interested in this line and the waiting is killing me haha.

I think they bit off more than can chew right now. The huge harbor freight vegas show had a huge icon lineup and now we can barely keep what little we have in stock let alone a 1000 different stores.

2 sets of 20 wrench holders were $15. The wire holder $10.

Does anyone know if those wrench rails are supplied by Ernst? They look identical, but I'd rather buy from Ernst because Made in USA.

If they are supplied by Ernst they would most likely be American made as well and be correspondingly more expensive. My guess is that they are a copy of the Ernst by an offshore supplier.

I got the white 5 drawer cart and I haven't had much trouble keeping it clean. I really hope they come out with more white boxes. Wouldn't mind a 56" box or even the 14.5" side cabinet to hang on the side of my cart.

I tried HF tools - the disc grinders burn out (literally) and a lot of the other stuff looks unsafe.

I would NEVER buy a yacht from them.

I have to admit the idea of a cart/box that costs anywhere near that, much less SnapOn money, boggles my mind, but I'd absolutely buy the Icon stuff if I was going anywhere close to that range.

As I think I've said in this thread, the SO financing sounds a little predatory.

I have to think some of their pricing reflects revenue-leveling for them as more and more pros go the route of HF or other routes for tools they might have just taken off the truck 20 years ago, and their quality does seem to be stellar. Their prices are what they are - it's worth it to you or not...

It better be a damn nice box. So far what I have seen from the icon boxes I’m not impressed with and world rather buy a use snappy for the price of a new icon. The top hutch and maybe the side locker were kinda decent and i might possibly be interested but that’s it.

To me, it looks like the icon boxes are trying to compare to the epics with the options they have like the power drawer and how the locker is set up. Now the epics have way more customization and who knows if the icons sell then maybe you will see more options. The icons look like a nice box with some neat features that your cant get on some other boxes which I am sure has extra value to some people.

That's the problem I see with HF trying to up their game in this way. I'm just not going to pay the kind of prices they want for something I don't see as proven. I went in to buy some pliers and ended up elsewhere buying Channellocks for right at the same price. They really cheap stuff has it's place but they are making quite a price jump between that and their better lines. No longer giving out all the freebies isn't going to help either.

It gives me no pleasure to point out the obvious, but the business models are all changing. Asian tool makers are closing both the quality and price gap, with Chinese metallurgy getting materially better in the last year or two. Unfortunately Snappy will find itself in a classic pincer more and more. The HF ICON financing will be another attack on the castle. With yet another quarter of missed revenue targets (almost 3% this time) Snappy Credit LLC and Snappy Financing UK Ltd are gonna have their hands full trying to help SNA. HF is going upscale because they already own (privately own at that) the low end. I am seeing Icon ratchets and boxes out in the world more and more often....

Taiwan do some real great and innovating air and hand tools .
Just a shame HF not making best effort with ICON design and sourcing .
What they currently offering falls short of brand marketing claims and the competition in quality, tool range and price/value. The socket ratchets are awful for what available from taiwan, the boxes are as good as other imports from usual online company or napa/homak etc but the price and limited options has created minimal customer interest . HF financing while will help sales it not going be ground breaking finance deal or that easy get . The point of HF is you can buy without finance or at worst cover it in couple months on your best credit card deal .
Product quality and range and price of ICON brand seems be a usual HF half arsed mess missing easy true potential .
The missed true potential of Pitts pro line for decades and they could of been competing with milwaukee and dewalt with earthquake power tools but the brand sat stagnant for years while they pushed other generic power tool junk under shabby brand names and marketing .
Brands like Astro, Carlyle, Capri and Tekton show you more professional manufacture design/sourcing and marketing package .

I think you nailed it. Lets at the automotive industry for examples of this strategy working. Look at KIA and Hyundai, there was a time they were selling KIAs buy one get one free and Hyundais weren't much better. Both companies upped their game with Hyundai going after the luxury market dominated by the Germans and doing a fairly good job at it. Now is Hyundai as good as BMW, Mercedes or Audi, no but you get a lot of features that used to only be in these brands at a discounted price. They aren't going to win over the loyalist but people looking for luxury at a discount are coming over in droves.

I think HB is trying to replicate the model those two companies used and time will tell if it works. Reliability of the line is going to be a huge factor going forward. For the boxes at least ICON is offering Epic features at Classic box price point. Its not going to win over the loyalist but it will likely win over people looking for those features on a budget.
