I just purchased a new special order HD14 tall and Extra long runway lift. I also use a fairly new (2 years old ) HD9TL lift.
I have noticed that on the HD14 the base plates are only3/8" thick and slightly curled from the welding process or dropped. On the HD9 the base plates are1/2" thick! Whats up with that? Why does the much heavier duty HD14 have thinner base plates and use the exact same upright posts as the HD9? Also if I don't fill the fluid tank absolutely to the top I cannot raise the lift all the way up. Seems I have seen a longer deeper tank on these lifts. When I hold the air lock button in to lower the lift air leaks by this release valve-no problem but my rotary doesn't do that. The noise is kinda bothersome too. It shouldn't by pass air at 80lbs. The piston ram rod on my HD14 is 1-1/4"" as compared to 12,000lb Rotary's 1-3/8" diameter. Lastly the paint work has quite few runs with the paint repair being a sponge dabber-pretty funky way of painting, and yes its only a shop tool but I used to paint industrial equipment and this kinda paint work wouldn't make it today!
I think now that Bendpak has these lifts made in China (the sticker on the upright proudly states this) there is going to be more and more quality control issues that will need to be addressed. I will need to fix-flatten the base plates before I bolt this lift to the slab otherwise there will be constant excessive tension pulling on the hilti slab bolts. I am also going to have 1/2" thick 18"x18" new base plates to be centered under the 3/8" thin base plates and bolt them to the upright base plates then bolt the new thicker base plates to the slab-at least it will look H-duty for a 14,000lb lift. I know 3/8" is enough but why were the HD9's using 1/2" base plates-They look good-not cheap like Chinese cheap! Other than these few annoyances all is ok.
If I buy another-back to Rotary!

Hi c39er,

My name is Gary McVay and I am the Customer Service Manager here at BendPak. I sincerely apologize for any problem you have been having with your new HD-14 lift. I would like to address them for you and see if I can gain your loyalty back.

1. Base plate curling up: You are absolutely correct. This happens when we weld the column to the base plate. It will flatten naturally as you bolt it down to your concrete. Naturally there is only a top pull on our 4 post anchor bolts so they are well designed for any upwards pressure and will never pull up.

2. 3/8” thick base plate versus 1/2": We changed from1/2” to the 3/8” thick base plate so that the runways would drop lower to the ground for your lower rides. This base plate is so strong that we use it on the HD-9 series and the HD-14 series. No additional steel plates are necessary.

3. Safety button air valve: Simple, it should not bypass any air just as you suspected. I will overnight you a new one immediately. Sorry for that.

4. Piston rod diameter: 1.25” is the standard measurement for all this BendPak family of 4 post lifts and has been for 30+ years without a single related incident. So, please feel safe with this type of solid history.

5. Paint issue: We use a very thick powder coat process to assure a long lasting, maintenance free paint. This should not have done this and I will find a way to make this up to you.

I wanted to thank you for taking the time to document these concerns. This type of feedback is very valuable for us. Our lifts are engineered, designed and QC’d right here at our headquarters in Santa Paula, California. We didn’t do a perfect job on this one and I personally am sorry for that. Please allow me to make this up to you. Perhaps a great deal on a new 7000lb rolling jack to use on your 4 post lift or some cool shop equipment to add to your garage. Please email me at [email protected] so we can take care of this for you. Thanks again for your time. I hope it was okay to talk about your issues in this post. It seemed appropriate to jump in and help if I can.

Respectfully,
Gary Mcvay

Well at least they are quick to try and make it right. Many companies today can care less about an upset customer.
