Hello all! Im new here on the forum and I thought that I would introduce myself. This is my first post on this site but I am a member of many other forums... mostly diesel performance related. I am aspiring to be an A&P mechanic. I currently have my airframe rating and I am taking my powerplant o&p at the end of September. I currently work for a cardboard box plant as a machine operator. When I get my powerplant rating I plan on exploring other employment options, in aviation of course, but I have also been offered a possible position in the maintenance department at my current job. I thought about going into maintenance for the time being until I found something in aviation that is suitable. Ive been lurking on here for a while and Ive already learned a lot but I still have some questions.... which are kind of time sensative... so here goes.
My student discounts with both snap on and macto end on Sept.1. I was wanting to take advantage of the discounts and get a few more tools before they ended. Ive already got a few things from snap on and have a general idea of other things that I want for now and will just continue to buy as I go. Dont wanna go too crazy... just getting about 500 worth max, like I said I already have some tools already. Im not one brand loyal and I dont mind buying used.
1. Snap on 6 peice instinct screwdriver set. I already have the ratcheting screwdrivers from snap on. My price is 55 dollars. I have also thought about getting a set of witte nature screwdrivers (not a big fan of the maxxpros with the microfiber) instead which are about the the same price but they are 5 peice set instead.
2. Snap on 4 peice micro pick set. My price is 20 bucks, so why not?
3. Snap on S80A 1/2 Ratchet. My price is 70. I already have the 1/4 and 3/8.
4. Wanted to get some locking flex head ratchets while I have the discount. I was thinking about getting the matco 88 flex in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2. My price 1/4= 53, 3/8=68, and 1/2=106. Then again I was thinking about just waiting and getting Armstrong Maxx.
5. Snap on 4 peice prybar set. My price 93... or should I just get mayhews.
I already have the snap on angle head wrenches in standard sizes (everything in aviation is standard and the maintenance guys dont need tools like that at work) and I thought about getting the flare nut wrench set RXFS605B. My price is 98 but then again I see used sets on ebay going for about the same price give or take a few bucks.
Im probably forgetting something but this post is getting kind of long. Just trying to get stuff that I should def get with the discounts. I am open to all suggestions. I look forward to everyone insight and look forward to learning from everyone.
