I guess this is a downside of buying tools online. hex socket is labeled 1/4" with a 6mm insert, Currently contacting seller :(

Does it look "wrong" or have any play? Because the difference between 1/4" and 6mm is around a hundredth of an inch...

No but the simple matter is i paid new price for a new socket that happens to be mislabeled. I mean if i had got a good discount or was warned in the ebay notes, then maybe i would have or not purchased this item set.

I know a lot of guys here like S-K tools, but frankly I've never been that impressed with them. From what I've seen Craftsman may offer better quality.

I agree SOMETIMES. I have had both experiences with SK. Some tools have been AMAZING others have been TERRIBLE. It makes little sense to me because I am a large fan of SK because I had grown up with them. I also see SK tools hold up as well if not better than anything else in an industrial environment. I have also seen owned tools where the quality isn't there. I have stubby wrenches that rusted after 2 weeks. So I can see both arguments except for the quality being lower than Craftsman that's just crazy talk.

Good news. After shooting my seller a quick email, they are sending me a new socket for free and letting me keep the old one. I am very happy and pleased now :)
