My roommate just picked up the 42" for 349 (with coupon).

I must say, it's pretty high quality. It definitely has a great feel to it. The drawers slide way better than my C-Man, and certainly better than the Kobalts at the big box stores.

My Kobalt boxes are a step up from the Harbor Freight boxes but those HF boxes are a darn good deal.

From everything I have seen the Kobalt boxes are on par with the HF boxes. I personally after looking at them both would chose the HF boxes as they are a little better quality.

I have the black Kobalt boxes from a few years ago, they are superior to the current Kobalt boxes and the HF boxes. I guess I should have mentioned that sooner :)

Which coupon do you use to get that deal? That's 55% off the current sale and 65% off the list price.

I think you are thinking of the 56" not the 45" the poster was writing about. The 45" is on sale at $399 and there is a coupon for $349.

I love how it only took 5 posts before someone said something about Snap On ... especially considering the original poster asked about something totally freekin' different.

Well SO is the standard to meet or beat. Actually it seems like a compliment to me.

I've never seen that box in person, but I'd say that it's a reach to say that comparable boxes sell for over $6000.

I do like the drawer config on it though - except for the lack of full width drawer.

This box came out the summer of 2010. It looks like a very nice box in person. I was talking to a guy that bought one and he loves it. I have the 42 top and bottom.

Actually it came out in 2008. It's just you never saw one in the store until 2010 and very rarely made an apperance on the website (like the 72 inch does now). HF had another 56 inch box since 2004 but I've only seen one. It had the same wrinkle finish as the 41. That box came out while my shop was still open.

The 56" is a damn fine box. I convinced a buddy of mine whom is an aircraft mechanic to buy this box and be the guinea pig. lol

I'm not ashamed to say I'm a little jealous. I paid around $2000 for my stainless Hammerhead boxes, and this 56" HF makes mine feel somewhat "cheap". Very thick metal, clear coat finish, and the drawer slides are really smooth. He loaded over 150lbs of tools in the top drawer and it slides in/out like nothing is in it.

The only thing I can say needs improvement is the deck pad is glued on. Other than that, this box is a damn steal for $800.

If it is what i'm assuming it is, (a bigger, nicer version of their 45" model that I have) it looks like it would be pretty awesome. I agree though, it does need a full width top drawer.

I've asked the manager at my HF if they ever get in the 56" box and he said that unfortunately they do not. I was really anxious to just see it for myself and inspect the quality.

Couldn't be happier though with my 41" box and 5 drawer roll cart.

I'm sure they would call it "loyalty",but it seems that some people just can't stand the thought of anyone buying anything but SO.
That HF box looks pretty good in person.Nice shiny red.Makes the 41" look kinda dowdy.

No matching top chest. My local store got a display unit in last week. Looks and feels very nice. I personally like its glossy red finish better than the 41"s winkle red.

I have to agree with d4dawg. I saw these two cabinets side by side and the glossy red finish on the 56" box made the 41" box look cheesy, adn i am looking to buy the 41" box. LOL! Is it paint and clear or powder coat?

The quality of both is great, but I hate the locking drawers on the bigger box. Why does it only have an unlock button on one side?????? Annoying. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Just saw this box in one of their recent ads....we'll probably see more of it in the future due to the success of the 13-drawer box.

Yes, it has double slides on the bottom 2 drawers on the left, and also on the very tall drawer on the right side.

Snap On *****. Really. :)

Here's my take. If I was working as a mechanic, and was sliding drawers 10 hours a day, six days a week, the Snap On would probably make sense. The HF box might not stand up to that kind of daily usage. I'm betting the Snap On box was designed and built to stand up to that kind of abuse and not miss a beat. What mechanic wants a drawer falling apart in the middle of a work day where a set number of jobs have to be completed to keep the manager happy?

If I'm a homeowner, I'm probably going to be sliding drawers on the weekends, and a lot less often during those days than a pro. I'm betting that I won't be putting enough use on the chest to notice a difference, especially when there is that much of a price difference between the two boxes.

There's also a lot to be said for the idea that a number of HF boxes can be bought before you reach the price of a Snap On.
