i bought the new composite long handled ratchet from Harbor Freight last weekend.

ive used it a bit changing oil and other piddly items this week, so not a ton of use yet. so far i like it, its as long as my old snap on ratchets but about as big as my FL80.

i decided to put it in my mobile box to give it a test out as i keep it with me when i need tools, so i will put it through a real test and report back after that.

so far though i like it, if they make the normal compsites like this with a decent handle and decent teeth i would buy them as well. only thing i don't like about this ratchet is that with all HF or some substandard ratchets is that the direction lever is backwards of everything else ive used.

so

pros: fine tooth, long, comfy easy to use

cons: direction lever is reverse of normal.

anyone else used this yet?

I am planning to get one. Just because American drive in the left hand side does not mean everybody else are wrong driving on the right side.

I pulled the engine from a 1986 Subaru GL Turbo wagon 2 days ago using nothing but the HF long handled composite ratchet+sockets, 12mm+14mm wrenches, a bit insert screwdriver, and a pair of lineman's pliers (for some of the hose clamps).

The HF ratchet worked great! No complaints.

BTW, I have 2 of those ratchets now, one for the shop and the other for my car tool kit.

Well to be fair, he only said it was "backwards to everything he has used" not to Everyone using a ratchet in the World.

The direction lever is correct. The other way is wrong.

You flip it left to turn the fastener left. You flip it right to turn the fastener right. That's the only way that really makes sense.

That ratchet mechanism is a Plomb/Proto design and is like 80 years old. Nothing substandard about that. :headscrat
