New HF Maddox slide hammer kit?

Wondering if anybody here has experience with the new Maddox slide hammer kit from harbor freight. Looks like its the same one Matco sells. I am looking into a Mac one as well which looks like a re-branded OTC.

No experience with the Maddox example but, everyone of those slide puller sets I've seen in the last 15 years has been made in China too include OTC and truck brands. I think i'd give give the Maddox one a shot if I didn't have a set already.

Home Depot has a similar looking Gearwrench one for $10 less and with an apparent lifetime warranty instead of the crappy 90 day HF has..

Lowes has a Craftsman for about $20 more than the "Maddox" with a lifetime, also.

Seems like a good buy. I know lots of people who like Maddox stuff.

If you can - for purpose of comparison -, measure the distance between the inner radii of the two slots that are in a straight line on this piece -

A buddy with a no-name chinese set has needed to borrow from another buddies Snap-on set, because the slots are (3/8"?) further apart on his cheapie.

Everyone should own a 5/8-18 tap to be able to fabricate some end tooling.

Or...some 5/8-18 unplated hex nuts to weld things to...

At least the Maddox one looks a little different (actual sliding hammer) than all the others....as well as the orientation of the parts in the case (the Powerbuilt version also uses the same orientation for more $$$). I wonder if all the other Asian sets that look almost exactly the same in terms of parts and alignment (like the Craftsman/Gearwrench) come from the same factory that make the ultracheap ebay sets:

I had a hard time pulling the trigger on one but with so few options that I could actually get my hands on, gave in and just bought the Maddox. I couldn’t find anyone who stocked them and get Napa, HD or a parts store to bring one in I’d have had to order it and pay for it. Then that would pretty much make the decision.

I opened the box at HF and decided it would do the job I needed it for - replacing the gimbal bearing on my boat.

Overall I think it’s a good tool.

Now we just need someone with a name brand to compare....be nice to see the $40 version as well.

I have the OTC Stinger version. Bought it ~10 yrs ago. 6.25" and 5.12" outside dimensions as shown above. Mine is made in Taiwan. I bought a ton of OTC pullers and slide hammers ~10 yrs ago and it was almost all Taiwan or USA with global materials (Taiwan or China, I'm sure). The ball joint press was USA and not sure about the pitman arm pullers, but nothing was marked China FWIW.

And yeah, I have a few 5/8-18 coupling nuts to weld things to when the need arises.
