I just upgraded from a Hobart 140 to a 210 mvp and man oh man is this thing kick-***!! I've pushed the limits of what the 140 would do but the projects just kept getting bigger and bigger so i had to up the game. Unfortunately i didnt have 220v in the garage so i had to run a line from the panel. I debated putting in a sub-panel but i decided against it at this point. So i installed a 50amp breaker, ran 6-3 and installed a 14-30R. I put in a 14-30R because i also wanted to back feed the panel in case of a power outage where previously i'd have to drag the generator around to the other side of the house. Now the generator has to move 10'. Yeah i know it's not a good idea to run the generator in the garage and all the inherent dangers associated with it but i'm willing to take the chance. So i had to make up an extension cord that had a 14-30P on one end and a 6-50R on the other. No big deal. I also used some of the 6-3 as a new cord for the generator since i had about 50' left over. Just a 14-30p and a 30amp twist lock plug was all i needed. Here's a quick bead from the 210mvp. I'm pretty happy with it. FYI i sold the 140 for $350 so that helps offset the cost somewhat.

Interesting! I'm in the same boat----I've got a 140 and wish I would've spent a bit more for something with more capability and upgraded my electrical. Even though I haven't really NEEDED it, it's nice to know it's available if I did. I'm confident in it's rated capacity though, after doing an informal bend test with it recently, bending some single-pass T-joints sideways in a press with no signs of failure.

Great welds and welder. I upgraded from a HF to the 210mvp and love it. I had a subpanel installed in the garage so I can run it on 210. Glad I went with it.

Ive been mulling over one of these.
Good to see comments.
If your back feeding the panel remember to shut your main down. The electric co. will detect voltage and ground it out. Keeps the linemen safe also.

Hard to go wrong with one of the big name 120/240v compact feeders. Great compromise of power and portability.

OP . . . that's a nice welder . . . Congrats !

On your wiring setup, did you run it by the GJ Sparkies ??

Is this an Attached Garage . . . . or Detached ???

Gensets running in garages and improperly backfed are problem just ready to happen. Can't be too careful.

I've ran the wiring aspect of it by local wiring inspector that i know so it's been installed correctly. I dont know the credentials of the guys on this board so i went to the appropriate, certified sources. I'm not about to take someone's word for something over the internet without knowing who this person is and their background.

It's an attached garage and i'm well aware of what to do and not do when it comes to feeding the house with electricity that doesnt come from the street. And running the generator inside the garage does come with increased risks but using common knowledge and taking the proper precautions, it wont be any more detrimental to the structure, or humans, than anything else i do out there. Probably a lot safer!!!

I had one on my xmas list. not sure I will get it. Farm and Fleet had them for less than $800.

Got mine from Blain's Farm and Fleet a year or so ago for that price. Great service and reasonable shipping. I upgraded from a Hobart Handler 135 to the 210 MVP and I have been thrilled with it. Just did a snow plow mount with lost of 1/4" plate fillet weld and it work great. Terrific investment.:D
