We just moved into our new home on Monday. We got a a winter storm that rolled in literally hours after getting everything unloaded and temps dropped into the single digits. I did notice in the garage the side vents go all the way to the exterior which makes it quite cold in there. Would stuffing the vents with some foam insulation board be ok or should I take another route in trying to keep the cold out. Still gotta organize and unpack everything in there but with the single digit temps creeping into the teens its gonna be a cold one.

I am questioning what the purpose was? If you have a furnace or heater, it maybe for combustible air. The only other reason I can think of are car fumes?

I moved into my first house last April and am still setting up my garage shop the way I like. Mine doesn't have vents, but the dryer vents into the garage :/

My HVAC and water heater are in a closet in the garage that have vents to the crawlspace and attic for combustion.

If those vents don't serve a purpose, I would get some rigid foam and foil tape it on the inside with a future intent to remove the venting entirely.

If you have natural gas or LP appliances in the garage, they're for ventilation.

The tankless heater is in the storage closet right beside it, I should look and see if there is more ventilation in there I haven't had the chance since all of our misc stuff is still taking up the entire garage. I am guessing they also did this as to prevent any car fumes in case someone had the bright idea leave a vehicle running. I was considering covering up at least one to keep the garage somewhat warm during these cold days
