Hope is not a course of action.
It's all I can do at this point. Also hoping to hear back from a guy who said he would help me with the spaces between the slab and retaining wall. Installing downspout drain pipes, tying in wall drains, installing trench drains, running all drainage into retention pond, concrete area between slab and wall.

I agree, but discussing the root causes of the shortages and delay is off limits for this forum.
So, I will just hope along with you- starting with better luck going forward.

On a related note we have been able to get all the steel we need for our manufacturing business- but some of it is 3-5X the price we were paying last year. (Specialty tool steels, some heavy structural shapes) Most of our shortages have been in controls and automation components; we have been able to come up with work-arounds for most of them. Engineering and Purchasing have been great at finding suitable alternatives.

Is your building supplier struggling with the frame or the cladding/trim?

So, last Tuesday, this guy had given me a quote to do the drains and concrete in the areas between the slab and retaining wall. We spoke on Wednesday to confirm. He told me he would start by Monday or Tuesday. Have not heard from him, nor has he responded to my texts. His voicemail box is conveniently full. Here we go again.

Concrete guy called me on Wednesday. Said he had to call the dirt guy to get my number because he had been trying to get me but had the wrong number. (Doubtful). He showed up with crew on Thursday. First thing he did was cut away all the over-poured footing concrete the previous guy left. Then we got all the trench drains installed, the downspout drains in, and everything around the slab graded and compacted. I have the weekend to get my water lines in for hose bibs on all four sides of the building, then concrete on Monday. Fingers crossed. 20210805_145805.jpg20210806_140446.jpg20210806_140533.jpg20210806_140651.jpg

Like I said, fingers crossed. I'm Doing as much of the assembling, measuring, and directing as I can without being overbearing to make sure things are done right the first time. Tired of re-doing work I paid for. He's working up a bid to do the apron as well. At that point I'd be ready for my building.

But are you concreting or rock for that area? Glad they showed up as planned. I assume the grates have tape over them.

I realized it was not part of the building, just meant zero storage or perhaps bags of mulch or any thing small like that.

So it will be roller derby any time.:thefinger

So skate night is canceled?
No skate night. Can't afford the liability insurance that would be required to have Shorty even walk in the door.
My wife started playing pickleball with the neighbor lady and her friends. Now every time I see the neighbors they ask when their pickleball court will be ready. Everyone's a comedian.

Have to open the trench drains up and test the drainage. Soon.
Spent yesterday in the hospital. While prepping for the pour on Sunday, got my hand covered in fire ants. started swelling on Monday while we were pouring. Monday night the allergic reaction went nuts. Whole hand blew up, broke out in hives all up my side. Got up at 2:30, cold shower, more antihistamines, more cortisone cream. By 3:30 I had worst chest pain since my bypass surgery, needed a nitro pill . Went to ER at 7 am. They gave me benadryl injection, steroids, chest x-ray and EKG. Told me I'd have to spend the night for full work-up and stress test next day. Stuck me in a ward for holding non-covid patients until a room opens up. By 10:15 I had had enough. Signed myself out and went home. Trying to get hold of my cardiologist today.

Damn John, sorry to hear of your reaction to the ants. They are pretty mean, fortunately they just hurt me.

I do t blame you for getting out of there, as long as you’re stable, I agree on just getting with cardio. Right now a hospital is the last place I’d want to be.

We get our property treated 2x a year by fire ant control and it’s very effective.

hope you recover quickly.

You know, you didn’t have to go to that extreme to cancel the roller derby, all you had to do was require shorty to wear boots and it’s been over!🤣🤣

you know, pics or it didn’t happen.
Welcome to Tallahassee medical care. No matter the symptoms, they want a night (or 3) stay and numerous tests then they forget to schedule test for the next day.
Glad you’re doing better.

Thanks guys. I have an appointment with my cardiologist tomorrow.
I think spending so much time out in the sun this weekend was the main problem. Was going to mow the pond today but couldn't handle the heat.

May be short lived.
Wife has taken up job searching for me😧

Scary **** with them ants.
RivennHewn, I retired from IBM when I was 50. A few months later I ordered a set of knives on QVC [maybe it was HSN] and my wife told me I needed to get a job. Got a cold call from a former IBMer who was working at America Online. Six week contract turned into four years with me commuting between Florida to DC every other week. Did a fair bit of DC to Ohio and even two weeks in India. Re-retired at 54 and never heard another 'get a job' comment. That was 24 years ago.

I gave two years notice nine years ago....still working ( very) part-time. It's working out well for me and the company after 36 years; they get the benefit of my experience and I get medical benefits.

You have to be careful when it comes to little critters, I had a spider put me in the hospital and it was not fun.

I have 15 days left until retirement but I'll be spending at least have of them in quarantine recovering from Covid.

On a good note though. The metal building I ordered back in February (I think from the same vendor you ordered from), is due to be erected today and tomorrow. The 6 weeks delivery I was promised turned into 6+ months.

Is yours going on a slab ? I put my deposit down in November, but I didn't get on the schedule until I had a slab.

Looking forward to seeing pics of the new building, and counting down to your retirement day.

I'm guessing my concrete guy feels as though he under-estimated his quote to do the concrete around my slab. Received his quote to do the apron in front of the garage and it's a LOT higher than I expected.
