I was wondering how the new place was coming along, Happy Birthday John!
Hi Bill, We have not officially relocated yet. I have been making trips (13 to date) to Ohio to work on the house. It needed a lot of work. We're currently in hurry mode to get the house into "acceptable move-in condition" and get the Florida home sold. I haven't been on GJ much either. Too busy and too tired.John...Have you and Linda and Payton officially moved to Columbus...??? I haven't been on GJ in ages. I've been catching up on all of youze guy's issues (some you told me about and some I'm reading about for the first time). Happy really, really belated birthday. A couple of months ago, I sent you an old fashioned email to thank you and Linda for our Christmas card but never heard back from you so maybe you had moved. Trish and I are so done with Whidbey and are ready to pull the trigger and move back home to Massachusetts (Cape Cod). Be safe and stay strong and get healthy.
Welcome back! Will you be posting about your new garage/shop?NEWEST CHAPTER :
Hello everyone. Been awhile. After 17 months and 25 trips back and forth between Tallahassee and Columbus ( 2 of those trips in a 26' Uhaul truck ) we are finally relocated to OHIO . This whole thing has taken years off my life. Countless hours driving, painting the entire interior of the house, gutting and remodeling the kitchen, replacing every outlet and switch in the house because every one had been painted over, having all the black iron gas piping in the house upsized because we added two more gas appliances, having all the attic insulation removed and new blown in because of a major mouse infestation. I had a lot of help from my buddy Rob in Cinci and my local buddy Joel (bugnut). But we're home now. And have good news that our Tallahassee house looks like it has sold (cash !) in three days.
I haven't been on GJ much, too many other priorities and I didn't have internet at the new place until recently.
Hope everyone is well, I did miss the support from all here.
John
Now having bought and sold properties in three states I know that states regulate home purchases differently. In Texas there is a negotiated option period that lasts anywhere from 3 - 10 days where buyers can back out of deal for any reason and get their earnest money back (which frankly is unnerving when you are selling a house).Thank you all. Have a little disappointing news today. Buyers backed out of the deal. Our agent said the other agent is a flake and had no legitimate explanation. Oh well, back on the market.
I'll post some pics of the new house. It's nothing fancy, not much shop space, but the wife is happy to be back near her family and her Buckeye people.
The "Offer Accepted" contract stated buyer had 6 days to pay deposit. Scary thing in FL, Re agents DO NOT have a fiduciary responsibility to buyer or seller. When I got my RE license in NY, fiduciary responsibility was main topic in classes. Now having bought and sold properties in three states I know that states regulate home purchases differently. In MD and PA the contract is binding and no backing out.
