Hello,
My wife and I have sold our house and started building, what we plan to be our last house. We wanted something on a golf course with a nice view of the course and a lake. We lucked up and found the perfect lot and have already started construction.

I have been on this forum for some time now and have seen many awesome shops. Mine won't be the largest (at 24' x 30') and it won't be the most glamorous or plush but, I do plan to have a nice place with a nice bit of character where it will just be fun to hang out and tinker on different projects.
I have some old artifacts that I plan to keep that will go towards giving the joint some character.
My plan is for the shop to look like an old time hot rod garage that is getting a face lift. I am after cool meets classy!

So, I hope you find something here that sparks a bit of interest.

To get started...
The following are some 3d models I did to give you an idea of what I am planning.

The I-beams will be made of wood and the brick will be a feaux brick.
My idea for the overhead beams has changed since I did the models. These will be large distressed wood beams. They will be better for introducing some "warmer" feel than all the rusty metal.

Ok, so much for the planning...on with the real work.

I won't post pictures of dirt being dug so I will start with the frame work of the shop.

Heres a shot from the garage. You can see the large beams I mentioned earlier.

Up comes the top!

More to come:thumbup:
Cheers!

QuikKotaTX,

Thanks for the kind words, I did it all in SolidWorks.
The top was removed to see the insides. The top will be corrugated tin.

I thought it looked like SW as that is what I use all day but the logos on the decorative items looked like more of a industrial design software. You have some good skills.

You can use any graphic and place it on the model as a Decal. Look up decals in help. Very useful once you get the hang of it. PTW, I've had the best success with png instead of jpeg etc.

Subscribed. I wanna do the same thing sort of. Mine will have to look like it was always part of a 100 year old farm. With motorhead thrown in.

Well, there wasn't much progress throughout the holidays but now things are starting to happen so I thought I'd post a couple update pictures.
Stucco is going on as is brick. Shingles will hopefully be up next week.

Here's a shot of the brick. This is solid brick that is over 100 years old.Their doing the shop first----their priorities are in line lol

Here's one from the back of the house.

More to come....
Cheers!

I have always liked the look of used brick. Did you salvage that yourself or buy it from a building demolition company. Used or better put, recycled brick has fallen out of favor because of the high cost of labor. Everything is done by hand.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Bib, There is a company here that buys very old brick from around the country. These brinks came from an old building in Virginia I believe. This company also salvages wood from the bottom of lakes and rivers. Then they cut them up and the wood is used for flooring. Some of the most beautiful floors I have ever seen.
I'll post some more pics once the bricks are completed.
Cheers!
