I'm in the same climate, and I had a Carrier system installed in Sept. I went with the Infinity ICS modulating furnace. I'd certainly second everything that was said about a good installer. My guy was excellent, bid and did the install himself. He showed me his licenses and continuing ed credentials up front. Very pleased. What I like about this system is it is nearly silent, and the DC variable speed blower saves a ton of $$. At the same time I had a whole house humidifier, and mid range Performance series Carrier AC installed. I went with this primarily out of noise concerns, as the AC is near a bedroom and also close to the deck. It's nice and quiet. The AC season is so short up here I couldn't Justify a more expensive AC. I think it is 16 .5 SEER.
I also had the Infinity thermostat installed and it is the only part of the system I don't really like... it works well, but is complicated, a bit more PC than Mac, and I'm a Mac guy. PM me if you need a good Carrier installer reference.

I see the brand bashers have dog piled on the thread.
I've been a plumbing & HVAC contractor since 1968.

The most important is installation, not brand. Shop contractors, not brand. Talk to their customers, look at pics of their installs. Do your homework.
The last place I'd be shopping is the YP for a contractor you have 0 experience with.
Talk to friends, neighbors, family & get a referral.

30% of my work today is going in on a brand new installs by others that went bad.
