New house, new garage. Something different.

Just recently moved to Hickory, North Carolina from Kansas City Missouri. Found our dream view and a house that checks all the boxes minus 1 for me.....a garage.

The garage was converted to living space. Wood flooring, wood ceiling beams, a fire place and a door. Still thinking of design ideas on a door, paint, lighting and layout.

I'll have 2 motorcycles, Mac 3 bank tool box, air compressor and shelving to go in.

I agree with making it a garage again unless you need the living space. The frame should still be there.

Also that fireplace needs upcycling into a Bar..

Yes, I also think the frame work is there. Once the interior updating is done the garage work is to follow. We haven't moved in yet, close next week.

For the Flex and my soon to be new to me E39 BMW M5 that I'm on the hunt for. Plus the bikes and maybe more. I have the Harley that needs restored and built. If I keep the fireplace a TV will be placed above it.

CAFE: that garage would be the MAN CAVE where maybe the bikes could roll in and out of and i'd build a detached garage cause i think you have the room. some of the guys here build entire 30x40 garages for less than $25,000 even when hiring out a lot of the work and your area shouldn't be more than that.

love the view with all the trees. any critters that you know of that might be coming by for a visit? are you going to be at the top of the food chain or if you had that view in our area you'd most likely have mountain lions (Cougars), bears and BIG FOOT coming to the door.

Your not dreaming big enough here. Extend the roofline of the garage another 30' or so and make that your new garage. Keep the old garage as a motorcycle work area, tool storage, workshop, and mancave. I would expect that by the time you've spent the money to recover this area to a garage again you could be 10%-20% of the $ way to an addition.

I would love a 30x40 but the current space will not allow it. There just isn't enough space behind the house, next to or behind the driveway. The tree line acts as the property line and it would be to close....I imagine.

As far as I know there shouldn't be any larger animals. But my wife's family says bears are known to come around.

It will definitely be a space to build my bikes, TV, comfy chairs, fridge, all my road signs, moto signs, stereo etc... How it's going to be laid out is TBD. We won't move all our stuff until end of November.

I wouldn't have the space for a driveway and the way the property line and trees are I just wouldn't have the space. I'll still check it out and get an idea of how much each option would be.

Here is the space I have to work with if I built anything behind the house. I'll get some better pictures today as I'll be at the house installing new fixtures and door knobs.

What about building one of those modern Garden Studios for additional storage?

Literally my dream car I hope to obtain by the end of the year or sooner. I already lost out to one because I waited to long to pull the trigger on the purchase.....5 days to long. So if I find one I need to be ready that day or put a deposit down so I can travel to wherever I need to go to pick it up.

Once obtained I plan on coil overs, square set of 18x10 Apex EC 7's, 275/35 Michelin Pilot Super Sports, muffler delete and call it a day.

CAFE: i was thinking down in front of your house for a detached garage/shop, but if that is where your septic system is then Larry's idea of extending your garage out and maybe having the doors where you could drive straight in. then put your turn around below the house and also extra parking for guests.

that's an very nice looking floor and remodel of your garage to just not keep it as a MAN CAVE or showroom so just throwing out a few options for you to think about.

good luck and also include your wife in the decisions cause you know what they say HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE.

Spent the last month and more updating the house itself and spent way to much money. Not much of anything left for the garage but I'm really tempted to leave it living space as a great room.

Living room of the house.

Re did the kitchen, all new appliances, hardwood, new carpet in the bedrooms. Granite in the kitchen and bathrooms. All new fixtures, lights, faucets. All adds up.

Then I had to buy a new used car as I got rear ended that totaled out my past DD. Needed a cheap DD fast so I drove down to Georgia to get this.

I'm working with a contractor to figure out how much I can excavate the back side of my yard that goes into the hill. If I can squeeze a 30x40 building I'm going to pull the trigger on building.
