New house, new garage to put together

Closed on our new house yesterday. Garage has a lot of work required to get it up to where I want it.

First up, filling in a LOT of holes in the walls, then painting. Flooring will be a major project as well. I'm leaning toward racedeck but still have a lot of questions about what happens with spilled fluids, jack stands, and so on.

I'll try to keep the thread updated and I'll be asking a lot of questions. Have enjoyed lurking and reading trying to get ideas.

It is 22' wide and just short of 22' deep. A little wider and a bit less deep than my previous garage in Wisconsin, but that one had a floor that had sunk 2" in the middle and I didn't do much other than installing some gladiator cabinets (which are coming with me).

I have a storage room in the basement for the mower and such. Garage will just be home to the tools, cars, motorcycles, and probably bicycles unless it isn't too much of a hassle to keep them downstairs as well. Glad to be rid of the snowblower and sets of snow tires!

I am in the north Atlanta suburbs - acworth specifically.

Nice nothing can take up room like lawn & garden. Wish I didn't have to deal with snow any more, but this is where I chose to live so I just have to deal with it. Hopefully spring is on the way!

Congrats on your new home and welcome to GJ! Are you in the suburbs of Atlanta? The house looks like a Stephen Fuller design, he does some really nice stuff (like your place). Looking forward to seeing it come together--check out Rick's Double (among others) for inspiration.

Good point up there about the mower. Maybe I can devise a hidden shelter for it under the deck in back.

No idea on the designer of our home, but we do really like it.

Nice house....but I wouldn't want to mow that yard.....yikes.....

I would't rush on the floor.....get the house settled in....get the walls and storage done....then worry about the floor.....

Nice canvas to work on there, your garage is pretty close to the same size as mine that's just getting finished, so I'll be watching you for ideas!

Well we are (mostly) moved in now. The garage is currently full of boxes and things that need to be put away. However I do have something I need to do in the garage that I've been unable to figure out.

I need to replace both garage door openers. They are genie brand and both of them have bad light sockets, so there is no light when you come home at night.

I can't find an opener setup that will let me have just one control panel for both doors, or one master keypad outside. Sears was no help at all....just able to sell me two openers each with their own control box and keypad.

Surely what I am looking for exists.....

here is an update. this was a big week. paint, lights installed, and gladiator cabinets hung. new garage door openers installed also.

racedeck (freeflow in graphite with a little red) will arrive this week. i went with racedeck because it can be easily (relatively) pulled up if I move. also the house (and garage) has had a termite treatment so they have drilled bait things into the floor around the perimeter and I suppose I'd like to keep access to those.

after that my next project will be figuring out a workbench solution, and a tool storage solution. I would like to move that blue roll-away into the basement, but I might also just repaint it to match the gladiator cabinets and pick up a short roller tool box. my ancient basic craftsman roller did not make the move with me, so I am currently without a place to store my hand tools.

RaceDeck came in early. all installed except for the right side along the wall, which has to be trimmed about 3", and the trimming needed around the garage door frames.

Love the look and ease of install with this product! next steps are more geartrack to hang bicycles, ladders, etc, and then the big project will be a bench/tool storage solution.

thanks!

I did want to get a lot done before this weekend. now I can work in the space but still feel like it is mostly finished, just do final touches on things, and upgrades.
