New house, new shop - planning stages

I'm leaving the Bay Area and headed back home to Southern Oregon where I grew up. Selling my house here should finance my new shop & house.

I have a 5 acre piece of land and should break ground some time next spring when the rain lets up. I have a guest cabin to stay in for the winter.

My initial thought is to:
1) cut in the driveway (I have access through adjacent property, but only want to use it if absolutely needed).
2) Bring in the infrastructure (well, septic, power and phone/internet).

The first building will be the shop. I'm thinking of a 30'x40'x10' with attic trusses and a living space above the shop. My contractor said it would take 2.5-3 months to build out the shop (mostly because it's a big empty box).

I'll split the downstairs space into a woodshop and a space to work on a car.

At some point, I'll build the house & garage. The county won't give me an occupancy permit on the house till the shop is no longer a "house", so I'll have to remove the shower.

Until then, I'll be reading lots of threads here and hoping to catch a few mistakes before they happen. Hope to start posting photos in the next few months as I move my things north.

Maybe go 40x60 would be my advice. They fill up so fast. Plus with 5 acres your gonna want space for tractor maybe RV, lift...

Doubling the space would be nice, but there is a budget. I may go bigger, but may not go quite that big.

My house will be next to my parent's place, and there's already a parking space for the tractor, excavator, firewood truck and other toys. I'm not an RV guy, but there will be room to park a small truck or van camping rig. My dad has a nice machine shop set up, so I'll bebuilding the woodshop - we'll share spaces and tools.
