We're moving into new construction in September. Looking for recommendations for flooring for the garage before the moving truck arrives with our goods. The garage will be sheet rocked, taped, but not painted, so also will be painting before flooring.

paint first, so as to not mess up the nice new floor. Make sure the floor is dry, not weeping and ready for prep.

Flooring should meet your needs, tile porcelin or ceramic, grout or not and so on. If you are welding the epoxy might be best or perhaps coating that can easily be "patched" or restored. To keep dust down, just a sealer - but most of them will dissolve or get stickey with fuels or chemicals.

Biggie is DIY or pros? I would start with calls to the several folks on this forum that do this for a living and have done hundreds of floors. If you go DIY prep is the magic, don't skip or mix manufacturers, unless explicitly told to.

Good luck, and enjoy

yes, I'm definitely painting first, before moving in, and installing the garage door opener. Is there a list of Forum members in the trade? the house is in Northern Virginia near Fredericksburg.

I just used a polished concrete finish. I do powder coating and general car and motorcycle repair as well as a coupe of machinery tools. I don't care what my floor looks like so long as it's durable. Seems like that is the biggest issue about any floor coating is durability, especially if it's homeowner-grade stuff. I would recommend that whatever finish you go with choose a single light color, especially if you work on anything where you want to find it after being dropped.

How do you anticipate using the space?

^ This. It all depends on what you plan on doing in the garage. If you'll be doing alot of welding/grinding, etc, then I definitely wouldn't recommend any of those vinyl/floating floors (which is what I have).
Personally, if I had a new construction home I'd just put a sealer/densifier on the concrete and be done with it. Its the cheapest, lowest maintenance option and doesn't really have any drawbacks aside from aesthetics.
