New Husky Impact Sockets?

I swung through the local HD last night to pick up some replacement impact sockets since I needed them now rather than next time the tool truck swings through (Thursdays in my neck of the woods) and noticed something different about the Husky impacts -- they're shiny -- like, polished and gun blued shiny.

Previous iterations were (I believe) the same matte black as most other impact sockets, which made me curious as to why this changed.... anyone know if they updated the design or metallurgy alongside this cosmetic change? Or is it just for the "pretty factor"?

A good alternative is Pittsburg Pro line ... there have been good reviews on them. If you in a dilemma, check them out

Last time I was at HF I checked out some Pittsburg pro impacts and the hex wasn't centered in 1/2 the sockets. All the sets they had were the same way.

I miss the Pittsburg impacts from 15 years ago...I still have a mostly complete set, only one has broken (21mm deep) after years of beating on lug nuts at the dealer

I have both the SAE and the Metric HF "Pro" line shallow 1/2" drive impact sockets. The pro line are made in Tawain no China and mine appear breached center with the sockets visually. I have added a few sockets here and there to make a more complete set and I mostly just use the SAE set but I am VERY pleased with them. I use them hard and no signs of problems. I even sometime use them with my 3/4" bluepoint impact with serious airflow behind it with a HF 3/4" to 1/2" adapter and so far so good.

I also have their impact hex sets in SAE and Metric and I can't complain about those either and again these are used daily professionally for the last 3 years.

I think I paid less than $100 for all of the above from HF.

Its about all I have from HF except my 44" box but my experience from HF is if its tawain and their website reviews say its pretty good it usually is.

The harbor freight must be the problem line from Taiwan. You can tell by THE finish in the store. The quality of the Taiwan's are so much better visually

at least someone offered alternatives if he didnt like the finish of them.....

I just re-read the OP, and I didn't see where he didn't like them. He just asked if anybody knew what was different.

I swear, sometimes this forum reminds me the seagulls in 'Finding Nemo'.... But instead of "Mine! Mine!" It's "Harbor Freight! Harbor Freight!"

Or the anti-HF guys saying "No Harbor Freight! No Harbor Freight!"

And don't get mad at me if you walk around all day shouting, "Mine! Mine!"

Try to ask a question about a tool box. Even if you say specify you are not interested in the HF box. Not only will you get the recommendation you will be scolded for not being interested in it

Yeah, I know. Good thing I find it humorous, but I was genuinely interested in an answer to the actual question.
