Stopped into Home Depot the other day and decided to check out the tools. Noticed that they had all wrench sizes loose in bins and all socket sizes individually on the rack. They also had nice ratchets. One that I really like was a 3/8 72 tooth flex head. I imagine that they are trying to compete with Kobalt? Any way, I like it because I have a lot of Husky Tools that were given to me. They are.made in Taiwan which surprised me because they used to be made in China.

As of last week, my local Home Depot didn't have anything new, but there are some interesting things on the website that I'd like to see in store.

When I was at HD a couple of weeks back, I overheard one of the sales associates say to a customer that they were getting a new line of tools in, and that's why their stock was so poor. He said that they were switching to Rigid hand tools, but that must not have been quite right...Should be interesting to see. I wasn't a big fan of their Husky stuff - I bought a 3/8" - 1/2" adapter and was not impressed with the finish.

Employees are almost universally wrong about things like this. Does Ridgid even make a full line of hand tools?

This wouldnt really surprise me if it WERE true though, considering sears is offering Dewalt hand tools now.

The surplus store close to me has a lot of huskey tools. I did not know if they were closeing them out or what. I guess the warranty will be no good.

There's no indication they're eliminating the Husky name, they're simply replacing some of the tools with different Husky tools.

Home Depot has a ways to go to compete with Lowe's in the mechanics hand tools arena, though if the new stuff is made in Taiwan instead of China, that's a step in the right direction.

I generally go to Home Depot more often than Lowe's, so I look forward to seeing their new offerings.

My Store got the new Husky tools about 2 months ago. Most are Made in China, but HD did a pretty good job to hit a low price point. Some look similar to the new chinese Craftsman tools, and people said the ratchets looked similar to Gearwrench. I wonder if Apex is making the new tools??

Beware about prices though. I noticed several 'WTF!' prices...

This 1/4'' drive ratchet is $15.97...

Or you can get the Ratchet plus 3'' extension and 18 sockets for $14.97...

A few weeks back I bought the 11 Piece Accessory Set for $19.97 and the 11 Piece Torx Socket Set for $14.97

They're for my truck set so they havent seen much use yet.

I picked up a husky 90 degree die grinder a few weeks ago. I've been nothing but impressed with the fit finish and quality of it.

I also shopped at HD last week and noticed the expanded tool display of wrenches and sockets.
The larger size wrenches (1 1/4 and 1 1/2 sizes ) were selling in the $10.00 range. Since I don't use these sizes too often, these would suite my needs and price range.

And before they were made in Taiwan, they were made in the USA. I have sae/metric full pattern polished combo wrench sets that I traded for Cman rp wrenches when they had the promo in the mid 90's. Later, I saw that they were still making identical tools but the were made in Taiwan and had the COO stamp missing. Later they changed their design completely and made most everything in China. I bought a 32mm crab claw combo wrench in the bin today to finish some suspension work on my truck. I'm not really impressed with the wrench quality but I needed it to complete the job. They had some Roto ratchets and a few other things that are pretty much identical to the Pittsburgh pro stuff and double the price. The only thing I would think is a good buy would be the 1/2" drive torque wrench.

OK so for a few years, new cman products that are china, especially evolv, have had an identical version at HD. WF stuff is not exact, but there are a lot of similarities. It seems like if sears makes a move, HD is making the same one or vice versa.

The problem is, the HD versions have been a lot better priced. Remember the Ridgid cut rite? Well Sears had an 'accu cut' that they changed about a year or two ago when the Ridgid made ones dried up. Husky's new redesign a year ago or so, they have an exact copy. This is the example I can think of off top of my head, I bring it up because the sears one is almost aways around $20 and the HD one was almost always around $10. There are several tools that are the same in both stores that the prices follow that same pattern.

My guess, while Sears figures their own **** out, Dewalts hand tools are going to succeed or fail on their shelves. Milwaukee's hand tools are expanding. It makes sense that if HD is increasing their Milwaukee hand tools and Dewalt has hand tools at a major store, well then HD will carry Milwaukee's eventual line of ratchets & sockets. I don't think they're changing husky out completely and branding Ridgid hand tools in their place.

Because it makes sense, this will probably never be the case.

they are going to start carrying gearwrench stuff probably...

I was in a store one day and they had Gearwrench ratcheting wrench sets. The same store the next day had Husky ratcheting wrench sets and the gearwrench stuff was gone. Couldn't find it anywhere. Not even on the close out clearance table. Looks like they are expanding Husky and that's it.

Never seen gw in home depot. If they are expanding their husky line, I sure hope they are going to use a better design than what they have now or Lowe's will continue to spank em.
