I just seen these in the book

And in true Harbor Freight fashion there are also two different part numbers :wtf:

Don't see any listing of the tip sizes, just general length and angle of the mixed internal/external pliers

Anyhow looks like they come in hard storage case and immediate reviews seem to fairly positive

My friend has a set and it honestly seems pretty damn nice. Solid case, solid tools. I only use snap ring pliers occasionally so I just use the reversible Lang/CL ones for popping out gears out of my trans cases, clocking turbos etc

not new, been in the store for at least a year along torque wrenches & a six inch impact extension with a rotating grip. The Icon breaker bars are new though.

I think the Astro set at half the price might be a better deal.

This is one of the things you'll have to try out to know if it is up to the hype. I don't see myself needing a whole set. A single pair of Snap on or Knipex would probably be cheaper and would meet my needs.

First time I actually noticed them in the catalog

Guess I haven't been to the store for much since most Icon releases has been stocked.

I did have some of the old black handle Tekton ones to move thru my tool tables awhile ago can't quite remember now how many piece set it was though

Worth a shot..look nice..warranty is good. The main thing i learned from reading the reviews is F250 front wheel bearings are a common problem...lol.

$50 !? My 12 piece Lang set was only like $20 more.

Maybe they're decent but I'd never piss around with that type of tool from hf.

pretty much, market is saturated with these style circlip pliers, I have a 6" 7" 9" 4pc sets which silly cheap and proved very decent, if spending 50bucks plus then plenty brand recognised options available .
Even if HF set is pretty decent the brand image is piss poor, having 2 factory sources means quality/spec will vary and how long HF/ICON going carry exact tool for future warranty.
If buying cheap buy good value, if buying expensive buy worthy tool/warranty .

Angry Joe, they should replace them with out a slip. As long as they can confirm it is an Icon brand they know it was sold by HF. Let us know how it goes.

Has any firm other than Gedore realized the virtue of dipping the internal circlip pliers in a set in one handle color and the external circlip pliers in another?

Maybe it's not fair to point that out in a thread about new ones when Knipex, Orbis, NWS, Hazet, Wiha, and Stahlwille/VBW have all failed to grasp that simple concept. But it is a new line, and there's nothing wrong with stealing good ideas from the better tool makers.

and those would be the cheap convertible style set right? HF arent the convertible type, they are more like needlenose pliers like knipex pliers.

AngryJoe thanks for answering my inquiry about the tips

That's the main reason I didn't keep a set of those Tektons I had mentioned in one of my earlier posts. They were all the same dia tips though certainly seemed heavy duty enough.

I have replaceable tip Channelocks that have met most of my snap ring needs so far, but they're not really heavy duty by no means.

Nothing more frustrating than cheap snap ring pliers or weak spring pullers

Dang somewhat surprised to hear about that manufacturing defect being HF new flagship ICON line of professional grade tools. Though like others said no doubt will meet warranty replacement clause.

I just snipped this from a Dec 31 2018 ToolGuyd article

"Designed for the master mechanic that demands top quality.

ICON is a full line of premium hand tools, storage, and automotive specialty tools.

All ICON products feature precision craftsmanship for the professional – at an unbeatable value.

ICON storage is built to last… Invest in the best with ICON.

ICON specialty tools feature premium components designed for precision, performance, and durability.

From torque wrenches to ratchets and wrenches, ICON hand tools are built with premium quality and precision.

When you need a tool you can count on, reach for ICON." :D

Flagship, they pulled the name out of a hat. Plus, the prices compete with Made in USA prices. The rest is some sort of INFO Commercial - hypnotic trance meditation.

Too bad they didn't include duckbill snap ring pliers in the set. I had to go out and buy a single pair a couple months ago for a transmission overhaul, and paid a third of the price of this set.

I got that set after breaking my Channellock snap ring pliers on a Gillig 40’ transit bus S-cam snap ring. The next time I had to take one off I used my new set and it worked like a charm! They are very good for 50 bucks...

Someone on this forum mentioned this in another thread.
The tips are black and the hinge section looks like white metal. If they were all steel why would they be so bulky at the hinges see post #14.

If I may ask, where did you find the Gedores for roughly $80? Everywhere I look, they are in excess of $120.

I got a coupon in my email today for this set for $40.

I love mine and outside of a few VERY fat heavy Equipment snap rings, these are great. I use mine weekly (what some would call daily).

The best comparison I can make is they are 90 percent as good as my $350 Snap on set.

Good deal! I paid quite a bit more for my set, though it wasn't too insane when you consider the i-boxx by itself is $30 or so.

If you mean cheap as in crappy I would say certainly not.

If you mean cheap to buy the Lang instead of snap-on and everybody else's rebrand of the same set, yes.

The set I got was actually not the same as the one pictured, two less pliers but it was also less than 80 dollars. Came to a little over 90 shipped with tax for me.

Looks like its not quite the same set, I opted for the smaller set with the tray instead of box, since it'll lay nicer and take up less space in my drawer that way. Plus it was 76 dollars

What I mean is they are the convertible stamped metal type. The icons are basically real deal pliers like the knipex snap ring pliers

So "real deal" one guy already has an unopened set with 2 broken tips lol. Just had to get that shot in there:beer:

But I do agree with you the regular pliars type are awesome. I don't come across enough rings to ever move beyond my Lang set unless I get really lucky on a used deal...

Having used both I dont like the convertible type, too flimsy. But if you hardly ever use them its not a big deal. I have some large snap rings I need to remove and the icon set made it a breeze

Ahh, coming from overseas I see. I settled on the 4 piece set a few hours ago for $66 shipped. Figured that’s a good starting point and if I really need the 90 degree tipped pliers I can purchase those separately. I couldn’t justify the $128 price tag for the 8 piece set currently with how often I actually come across a snap ring that I need to remove/install.

Yah shipped and sold through amazon US tho, usually they make me buy through amazon UK, so that drove part of my decisioni to buy them.

Which is the 4 piece set? I really like trays, if the 4 piece came in a nice tray I'd have probably done that as I don't use them ALL that often either, but these should be here next week and I'm excited. I actually think they dropped the price on these another dollar?

S 8100 is the 4 piece set. Looks like Amazon dropped the price on the S 8008 set by a few bucks as well.

Really surprised at how fast these showed up. I payed for the expedited shipping because it was like 4 dollars more expensive than standard, tools look excellent and I'm going to use them to rebuild/lube a few ratchets tonight. Excited to get them into my box
