Seems like a great deal at $40. Is there a new set coming?

No, they just replaced them for some reason with a different SKU. I doubt there is anything different.
I could not find any of the "older" $40 sets around locally.
HF does that all the time. They did it with the Icon screwdrivers recently too, they're on the "new tools" page.

They just did it with the impact swivels too I noticed...
I have no idea what the differences are, if any. My guess is a different vendor/manufacture.

Am I the only person that's bothered by the socket sizes running right to left, instead of left to right?

I'd be fine if the biggest size was on the top row and it was running right to left. Then it's just running in reverse size order (left to right) with biggest on top. But this... this hurts my feelings

Maybe they decided to do right by techs and change the set to include 24 instead of 26

WTF? I'm glad you said that, I was thinking about finding these on clearance somewhere:
10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 16mm, 17mm, 18mm, 19mm, 21mm, 22mm, 26mm, 27mm
What genius added 26 instead of 24? Many here make fun of me for researching too much, but I have memorized the standard large Metric sizes as 21-22-24-27-30 as one of my takeaways.
And my takeaway from this post is, to actually look at the sizes of skip sets, we can't assume they make sense. I know that's a big issue with 10 to 19 sets, where they skip things like 16 for some reason. I didn't realize it was an issue with bigger stuff, it just seems obvious to do 24.

15/16" is close enough to 24mm and they're usually interchangeable.
So HF just wants to sell you the 1/2" dr SAE set...

It could be some change to the set, but usually Harbor Freight seems to use the SKU to track the manufacturer, and if the manufacturer changes, the SKU changes.

It’s most likely a change in packaging. They’ve been moving away from the hard plastic packaging to cardboard.

just a guess but i think china reads from right to left in there books so that could be why the sockets are packaged that way.
Actually, most companies do that with their socket sets, Snap On included.
I also can't recall ever seeing a single socket organizer going left (smallest) to right (largest).
The only exception being those 2-tiered organizers that are designed to be more compact you'll have one row left to right and the second row right to left.
