I've been playing around with various methods of rust removal. I've used Evaporust with great results but it's pricey. I recently tried white vinegar with decent results but it was slow. I've gone one step further and combined white vinegar, salt and an ultrasonic cleaner with awesome preliminary results. It worked very quickly and will continue to experiment with this method. I'll post pics when I can......

I bought two pounds of pure Oxalic Acid powder on Amazon for about $15. Did most of a rusty bike frame and parts in a large tub and kept a gallon of the mixture for later use. Still have over a pound of powder left too. Works awesome.

Does this citric acid etch the surface or leave it black do you know?

Length of soak for heavy rust on chrome tools?

Appreciate it.
Thanks
