Hi everyone,

Just starting to search the site because I'm looking to build a 26x30+ garage at my new (to me) house. It's going to require a new driveway. Hopefully i can get the structure up in 2 or 3 months so i can beat the winter storms. Can't wait to sit down for a few hours and get some knowledge flowing

I'm a mechanical engineer, so I whipped up a quick 1st floor frame set up at work yesterday (used Solidworks not an actual building program). 4 foot foundations, 12 foot ceilings on the 1st floor, maybe 10 foot on the second? might go with 2x6s for more insulation room instead of 2x4's.

Do people recommend 2 single doors for the garage or 1 large door? last house had a smaller 22x20 2 car garage with a single door. I just didn't like the girlfriend not pulling in and leaving enough space to get in and out of the car.

I'm trying to keep costs down and do almost everything myself. I just want a structure to put cars in for the next few months, and after that i will be finishing everything as money is available. limited windows and lights for now, might not even finish the 2nd floor at all yet. I'd rather go bigger and finish it later, than do something small and finished.

ok that's enough rambling for my 1st post.

Tim
