New IR compressor question

I just bought a IR 2340L5 compressor, 5HP, 2 stage, 1 Phase. It seems to work ok, but there is 1 thing I'm not sure about.

When it turns off, no matter if you shut it off or if shut itself off when the pressure has reached, there is a loud hissing sound from the 2 stage head, it sounds like the air is pushed back out of the head, but I'm not sure.

This sound lasts about 2 seconds, and fades away. The tank pressure does not drop during the sound, and seems to hold air just fine over night, so I'm not sure what that sound is.

My old craftsman single stage just shut down when the motor stops, there is no such sound. Is this unique to 2 stage or something is wrong with my unit?

i think the air releases in the primary stage so that the compressor can start up easier the next time. otherwise it will stall.
