New jigsaw

Looking to expand my power tools collection and am looking for a jigsaw. What would you recommend for a home owner, I'd like to stay around or under $100.

So far been eying these jigsaws:

Dewalt 5.5amp
Porter-Cable 6amp
Skil 6amp

Those are ones I've seen mentioned a few times, anyone have any other suggetions?

Bosch has long been know as one of the best jigsaws, although I don't have experience with their current saws. I have a pair of about ten year old bosch jigsaws and a newer ridgid saw. I'm pretty happy with the ridgid, don't remember the price but I would guess 140-160 if I remember right.

You want variable speed and t-shank blades. Are you looking for barrel grip or top handle?

Both your blog and Amazon says the price is auto adjusted once added to the cart. When I add this Bosch Jigsaw to my cart the price remains $143, I've gone through the entire checkout process all the way up to confirming the order...

Must be something up with Amazon.

Are you sure you've chosen Amazon as the seller and not some third party? I just tried it and the $20 was applied at checkout.

Not sure what's going. It *should* be taken off right at checkout. I just tested it and it worked for me.

I could be wrong, but that Dewalt looks strikingly similar to the old Bosch.

But I will second Bosch's reputation, I have one that I bought the minute I tried someone elses. My brother and Dad bought them once they tried mine. It's that nice. I ended up with a demo model from Sears Hardware, think I paid $90.00 for it 10+ years ago. There is a reason they are the preferred saw.

cpotools the 20 off is available when you hit update on your cart. Think that model is made in switzerland. Depends if your state requires amazon to collect taxes, the cpo might be a better options. I do not get charge sales tax for NYS with cpo, while amazon does for NYS.

The amazon does discount it, once you go to check out.

Sometimes a tool company just gets a tool right and the rest of the industry tries to catch up. A few examples come to mind. The legendary Skill Model 77 worm drive, Milwaukees Magnum Holeshooter, Hitachis slide compound saws , Porter cables sanders and routers, The Bosch Jig saw is without a doubt a member of this elite group, dont think twice about this purchase . Buy the last jig saw you will ever own. Ive had mine since 92 and i have used it more than 10 average users would. From fine wood work, to cutting 1/8 plate to box framerails this is one awsome tool.

I've not bought my first Bosch barrel grip yet, but having borrowed one a number of times it's on my 'must buy' list. I love the controllability, especially holding the front grip down with one hand and steering the back of the barrel with a finger pressure to make neat shapes.

Bosch has their jigsaw down right, love their 18v jigsaw works greats. Also they got the hammer drills and impact guns down pretty impressively as well.

Yup, in fact here is a screen shot of the final order process of Amazon other than clicking on "Place Order".

BTW, I was at Lowes this morning and noticed they had the Bosch JS260 for $99.

Meh. I'd much prefer a barrel grip too, but just because I like my grip closer to the workpiece. Same reason I prefer a pneumatic DA sander to electric.

If I need that level of control for intricate shapes, I just pull out my Cutawl.
Then, only the blade cutting head has to do the rotating, so I really do have fingertip control, and don't have to man-handle the whole saw with my fingers.
That, and your visibility of the cut line isn't so good with a sabre saw when the saw body is blocking your view at some angles.

Bosch 1584 AVS, barrel-grip!! Over your budget, but worth every penny! Variable speed, barrel grip, smooth solid, precise, powerful, like all Bosch stuff. I've built 2 boats and a lot of trim carpentry/furniture with this awesome jigsaw. I love the barrel grip----better control IMHO, especially if you ever do any coping (trim carpentry) like I do with the saw behind the piece of trim-----a 'Collins Coping foot' is also available for this application making it even easier for that use------buy one, you won't regret it.
