I was just at Lowe's and the new Mechanics tool sets are starting to come with 90t ratchets. Same look and body of the regular 72t ratchets. And yes they are made in China. I didn't see them for sale as loose ratchets . They were only in the sets. Some had the old and some had new. I suspect they will be replacing the standard 72t. Sorry didn't grab pics but it's on the package that they are 90t.

I just bought the 227pc set yesterday. Made in Taiwan, not China. Much better quality than the Craftsman junk they're replacing.

I just bought one today for my nephew. I already have one and they were down to $99 again.

Better than HF I would assume. How's the warranty with Lowes? Do they require receipt?

I've had to warranty a Stanley ratchet and a misboxed Kobalt socket. They did it quickly and no questions asked without a receipt for either. Quality I would say they are midgrade. The Kobalt stuff is often terribly overpriced unless it's on sale.

I have a 1/4 Kobalt ratchet that is stuck. Simply not working. Went it to Lowes and we couldn't find anything comparable. So they sent me home asking me to call Kobalt. I called Kobalt, they told me to go back to Lowes' because they have no stock and I am out of luck. This is the "Extreme Xcess" series which is basically a passthru set. They are my backup set and only passthru set. Son of a gun cause I think it is the perfect set for backup. Sockets are universal and space saving, and they are pass thru for the only few times you need it.

I've replaced screwdrivers and an extension that was way past its limits with no questions asked, I use mine everyday, no issues

It's really odd. Some sets are China and some are Taiwan. Seems the 227pc is Taiwan and I think the one set up from that. But the lower piece count sets are China. Why not use one supplier ?

Was at my Lowes the other day. All of their sets and a loose 90 tooth are Taiwan, except for a big set encased in plastic, which is China.

far as i remember they clearanced those out starting about a year and a half ago and haven't replaced them since. Doubt they will, they went all in and barely sold till it was on clearance.

In the old days, you had to 'register' every set you bought which nobody did myself included. Then you had 'sockets for life' where they claimed to send you a new one even if you lost it. Can't see that being abused. Don't know if that was tied to a past oem or just a lowes/kobalt policy.

Currently their warranty is ok. ***** for me cause all my Kobalt is USA or Taiwan, but that aside I'd put it between the Cman 'no questions asked' and HF 'receipt nazi' style.

I got the XA for Christmas one year, they don't see a lot of work, but when they do I'm glad I had them, not enough to pay what they wanted for them though
