Under no circumstances should anyone give Lowe's $1500 for a tool box.

The first white and black box mentioned was a limited run and the other pretty colors don't mean much to me. Everyone knows you can't slap lipstick on a pig.

People buy what they like.... It's not always about the price tag, otherwise snap on wouldn't still be in business..

Nice the white does look sick.... I have started looking for a good box for my home shop, will definitely check into the kobalt.. I'm a master auto tech and have any tool ever needed at work in my box, trying to start over for my home box.

...a tool box should never be white

Why not? It sees less weather than a white car, less brake dust than white wheels, and less human contact than a white shower floor.

Many of us care for our tool boxes like we do our homes or cars—no reason why a toolbox couldn't be kept just as clean with very little effort.

Garage floor? Probably shouldn't be white. Tool boxes? White is pretty cool to me.

That white box looks very nice. I dig it. I'm glad to see other companies start branching into more colors. I've been longing for a Sunex 8057 cart because they came in Purple and Orange.

I wish the hf boxes had an option like that.. I'd sell the ones I have to get a white and black set.. it's just so good looking...

It's like the MAC box Mechanicnamedjohn had...

I spent the entire afternoon at the big box places looking at storage workbenches. First stop was HF to look at the ever popular 44 inch. Then went to HD then finally some Kobalt.

I ended up purchasing the 41 inch white Kobalt one. I got it for a great deal. The HF one was going to cost me $100 more and since I am not a pro and only a weekend car guy....I decided on the Kobalt. The warranty is better and it does look nice in the white color.

That's used Snap On money lol. If someone wants to pay $1,500 for $350 worth of Chinese steel dumping that's their business.

Congrats on your purchase. We need pictures so we can properly evaluate your decision.
Lol.....yes indeed. The box is still in the back of my suv. My cousin will come later today to help me unload it. I promise multiple photos afterwards.

How much did you end up paying? I found the set at a Lowes for $484 after using a 10% discount code. The downside is that I'm gonna have to drive 2 hours to pick it up. Will it fit in an SUV or do I need a truck? If possible could you give me some measurements of the boxes?

I ended up paying $269 plus tax (includes Lowes discount). The actual dimensions are 41 inches x 41 inches....with it being 18 inches deep.

It amazingly fit in my CR-V with no room to spare (but that is with all packing intact). I didn't have time to assemble the wheels yet but they did bring a smile to face. The hardware is of good quality and they were nice enough to include a hex key.

I promise more photos in the morning.IMG_20170625_193747708.jpgIMG_20170625_194504367.jpg

I finally got to getting it upright. Extremely pleased with what I purchased and the final decision I made. The construction is solid and the ball-bearing action of the drawers silky smooth. You guys know what the casters made me smile right?IMG_20170626_182648718.jpgIMG_20170626_182628239.jpgIMG_20170626_182536981_HDR.jpgIMG_20170626_182520139_HDR.jpgIMG_20170626_182433562.jpg

I was checking out their boxes today. Is there a reason for the initial drag, before the drawer opens? Maybe it's there to stop the drawers from inadvertently opening while moving the box?

I have a Kobalt 42" stainless toolbox that I bought ~7 years ago and its served me very well. Especially back then it was noticeably much high build quality than the standard Husky, Craftsman, and HF boxes, albeit also more expensive.

The one thread that's been floating around for years comparing toolboxes showed that the Kobalt boxes were very high quality, but overpriced in the opinion of the creator of the thread.

I think its a great box to carry your most used tools (sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.) around the garage. For larger tool storage solutions where each drawer isn't opened that much or you never plan on rolling it around, I would use something cheaper like Husky or HF.

I picked up this box but in the black and blue variety. The drawers slides on the display felt a little cheap to me. For a ball bearing slide I hoped it would be smoother. I'll assemble mine over the weekend and start filling it. At the new lower price it still feels like a good deal.

my wife surprised me with the 30" wide Milwaukee tool chest. I've been drooling over it but it never went on sale. Well my wife has been calling every Home Depot around and only one was available. I am in love with this box. I've also determined that Milwaukee and newer Husky boxes are made by the same company assembled in Vietnam. This white Kobalt looks similar too. Great construction and great soft drawers. The slide rails are made in Taiwan which makes me believe it is likely another Taiwanese company utilizing Vietnamese labor. Regardless, great product imo. Mine is full of tools made in Germany, USA and Taiwan. I refuse POC products.

So they are not actually 1500. Would have been nice to know that at the beginning of the thread, huh?

The black and blue seems to be more expensive on the site compared to the white. I got the white top and bottom for 450 plus tax. I think the black and blue has soft close drawers which the white doesn't. You can buy 10% off coupons on eBay which is what I did.

Just realized you already have the white... Oops

:dunno: I can't believe there's always people on GJ ready to ruin someone's day. It's great to have choices and see new boxes come out on the market. Please keep us informed about how you like yours. It looks great!

I've had that same box since "black Friday" and scoring it for $550 for the top/bottom. They had one in the store, new in box, and I've never seen another there since that. They now have the black/blue model.

Honestly, the white has not been an issue at all. I like how it doesn't show dust like the dark grey vintage RemLine box I have parked next to it. I have my Kobalt box heavily loaded, and no issues with quality at all. The double plug strips with USB are great.
