New lighting

I'm doing new lighting in my workshop. I currently have florescent lights that are stubborn to start in the winter, so I'm not sure what to replace them with.

Any input would be appreciated.

are they standard or do they have electronic ballasts?

we dont have the problem with the cold it only goes down to about 15 degrees c

do you not get pre transfomers for the lights?

The lights that you have now are probably magnetic ballasts. If you go with the higher end electronic ballast High Outpu T8 flourescent we will be fine. The only time I have problems if it is REALLY cold, like -20 degrees F.

Use T-5 units with Daylight bulbs. They're great! They fire up in any temp and the light output is Incredible! I have 8 - 4 bulb units with reflectors in my 30x30 shop with 12 foot ceiling and it's all bright.

I had a cooper lighting guy figured my light layout and he sold me against T-5's due to the glare.

If it is a small job, Home Depot sells a -20 fluorescent fixture.

Do you need to clean the near open canister of the T-8's with bugs and dirt?

Show/tell us what you currently have,that way we can tell if just a ballast and lamp upgrade will do the trick,or if complete replacement of the fixture is best.

Here's what I ended up with:

It's bright as hell in there.

I also have them setup so you can either turn on the odd sets of lights, even sets of lights, or both. That way you have some brightness control.
