We had been having an increasing number of circuits fail in the barn... and after looking closer it was pretty apparent there had been years of patchwork repairs on top of a questionable original job. Lots of bird nest style connections. We ended up having an electrician rewire about 80% of the wiring past the fuse box. Then took the opportunity to replace our hodgepodge collection of light fixtures.
99% of the time we use the barn for storage and a place to work on various stuff... but, with teenagers, we also wanted to be able to pull out things and have a hangout spot now that the weather is warmer... so, that was the objective with the lighting changes.
I found some shop lights at Menards to replace the florescent fixtures. They were only 14 bucks each and look like a single florescent tube fixture. At that price point I was skeptical, but they are very bright and are a significant improvement!
We found some big Edison style light bulbs on clearance at Lowes. They are pretty cool, with a vintage appearance, and are LEDs -so I'm hopeful that they last. Stuck those above the rafters. We will use that lighting in the evening when hanging out during the nice weather.
In the end, we are pretty pleased with the outcome, so I thought I would share.
Now, I need to work on one of the doors... it's developed a big gap along the edges. It's always something.
