Since our posting of the installation of our special SPGX coating at the National 9-11 Memorial Museum, we have been receiving many calls and inquiries for more information and to purchase it, so we have decided to post it below. Currently this item is not shown or listed on our website.

Normally we reserve the sale of this product to our professional contractor-dealers and our own installation service company but have decided to allow the sale of it to Garage Journal Members with the 40% discount.

ARMORPOXY SPGX is a clear Single Component rno mixing) roll-on, UV-stable, cross-linked Polyurea coating with a high gloss finish. SPGX Single component Polyurea utilizes Polyaspartic, Urethane and Polyurea technologies to create a top coat that provides a durable, chemical, impact and abrasion resistant surface for a variety of applications. It is UV stable, can be used outdoors for carports and patios, won't yellow, and can handle virtually all common automotive fluids. It is also compatible as a topcoat with virtually all other company's products. Standard finish is gloss, but addition of our Armor-Grip non skid reduces the sheen to 'satin'.

Coverage is 350-400 sq ft/gal depending on surface porosity and texture, and if a non skid is added. Two coats can be used, but a single coat is normally satisfactory, and non skids can be added. The 9-11 Museum project is a single coat. Surface prep is the same as for any coating, either acid etch or a light grind. SPGX is not a penetrating sealer or densifier, it 'sits on' the surface therefore protecting it better than a sealer and has performance similar to epoxy, but higher abrasion resistance than most two-parts topcoats.

Retail cost is $199.00/gal, less 40% Garage Journal discount net cost $119.40/gal, or only about 30 cents/ sq ft/coat.

We posted a pic of the coating at the Museum, you can see one of the famous 'Reflecting Pools' out the window.

Please call or email to order or to get more info. Thank you!

Do you have plans to list it on you site? It looks like a nice product for the DIY crowd.

What are the advantages of this over a high or 100% solids epoxy system? Can it be tinted? Is primer recommended?

This looks like a really nice solution for DIY!

Hi
A 100% solids epoxy system would be a thicker system, than SPGX, hide imperfections better and allow the use of flecks to be more decorative.

SPGX is a more cost-effective alternative to epoxies, but with the super chemical resistance that many members here are looking for. No, it cannot be tinted, must be used out of the can the way it is.

hmmmmm, good timing.

-Do you happen to have any additional photos of completed jobs with this product?
-Are there any temp requirements during install?
-The prior owner painted the floor, does this paint need to be stripped off or can I go right over? If removal is needed, what would you recommend to strip

Thanks

Hi
We don't have any other pics but it's a clear coating that shows the existing floor so there isn't much to show as for the coating itself in photos. Temp requirements are between 50-90 Deg F. Previous coatings should be stripped with a locally purchased stripper, use of a product called Rock Miracle, or grinding the old floor off.

As for thickness per coat...
2.0 Mils = 500 sqft / 4 Mils = 250 sqft. / 8 Mils = 125 sqft.

Really interesting product. Seems perfect for what I do in the garage.

What is the working time, and cure time? Does it cure from moisture in the air/slab?

I'm getting ready to pour the slab in my newly built pole barn ~1,800 sq. ft. Could this product be applied to "fresh" concrete? How much time after the pour/troweling is completed? In other words cure time for the concrete before application.

Thanks!

Cure time for concrete is the same as for any epoxy systems. Generally 30 days or more. Always do the clear plastic moisture test prior to coating. If you need instructions, go to the instructions at www.armorcladepoxy.com which has how to test there. Thank you!

After months of research and searching on this forum, I'm still having difficulty coming to a decision. Can you do a compare and contrast between this and your epoxy? Thank you.

Hi our epoxy system is a 3 layer high build system that runs about $1.25 per square foot. The SPGX is a single application highly resistant coating. Not nearly as thick but an excellent product at about 40 cents per sq foot.

I recently purchased this product and plan on sealing my garage floor this upcoming Friday. The data sheet states that the SPGX clear coat needs 8-12 hours before light foot traffic, does that mean I have to wait at least 8 hours before I put on the second coat? Also when I walk on it to apply the second coat is it okay to do so with regular tennis shoes?

Hi, if it's dry enough to walk on, it can be recoated. Temp and humidity affect this greatly. 4-8 hours, depending on conditions. Thanks!

Thanks. Can you elaborate more on the durability of the SPGX vs the three layer epoxy system? Specifically, if someone were doing typical garage work in their garage such as everything from working on cars using jacks and jack stands, working on motorcycles, and even grinding and welding?

I like the idea of the SPGX being essentially clear so you still have some of the natural concrete look. Plus, the lower cost and easier application of the SPGX is a drawing point. On the other hand, I don't mind spending the extra money and putting in the extra effort to get a more durable product. Thanks again

Hi
The epoxy is thicker and more chip resistant, but both are about the same as for resistance to chemicals and such.

Epoxy would last longer due to thickness.

Thanks!

Ok, thanks for the prompt reply. Although I'm sure I'll be buying one or the other from you for my garage, I'm still undecided haha
