Hello everyone. I am a nebraska farm kid that basically grew up in a machine shed. On the farm we had several livestock buildings and a few pole barns for equipment storage and eventually an old farrow ing hog barn that we up-cycled into a heated space with tv and a pool table but my favorite was the 60x80ft machine shed.
Now I live in town in a small house with my long term girlfriend and our 4 kids. I actually bought my grandparents old house and my grandpa couldn't move to town with out having his own shop. He actually choose this perticular house based entirely on lot size and paved rear alley to build a nice garage. In 1992 he put up a 24x32ft garage with 2 10x8 ft doors on back. It's low maintenance tin clad 2x4 walls are part insulated and it had dinky windows on the 3 walls without doors.
My grandpa used it for mostly parking his and my grandma's cars in along with some storage, and simple wood and metal working.
My grandpa passed in 1999 and then the shop became just parking and storage for 12 years until I moved back home from Omaha. I moved in with my grandma to help her around the house due her her getting a up there in years and so someone would be around on a daily basis in case she fell down and couldn't get back up (were talking about a gal who at age 80 broke her hip to see if she could still jump rope lol).
I have always loved making stuff and really couldn't do it big in my apartment and couldn't afford shop space in the city and didn't really love city life anyways (Omaha barely counts ad city anyways) so I was very happy to be home. Also very unhappy to deal with 12 years of mess. Being thr shop was mostly unused everybody wanted to store this and that. My family (self included) tends to have pack rat tendencies.
It got cleaned out and is a mess again, but it's my mess. I do some wrench turning, little metal work, and lots of carpentry/wood working/home improments. I keep my garage queen, 1996 Camaro RS tucked away and plenty of tools to keep busy. Could always use a few more tools though.
I think I want to start a shop page here just to have somewhere to show what I'm busy with. I love seeing everyone else's stuff and it always inspires me. I want to give back and help others if I can. Thanks for reading my long post.
