New Mac Air hammer MPH1911?

Curious who here has experience with the new Mac MPH1911 long barrel air hammer? Im looking into purchasing either this or the Matco MT2916. Thanks! Cory

I have the mac air hammer and it does everything I expect out of .401 air hammer. Not experience with the matco hammer to say how they compare.

How do you like the Mac bits? do they hold up well? how does the non-turning ones work?

I don't have any of the nonturning bits so I can't say. Regular mac bits overs seem pretty good at least that I haven't noticed any problem with them. I have a lot of bits and back when I bought the hammer, I just tossed them in with the other ones so I don't ever really know which brand I'm using at any given moment.

Coryc1 May I ask what are your intentions to use this for? Exhaust work, auto repair. Also what is your budget? Have you looked at the Astro line? To much of a air hammer makes it difficult to use. Ask Eric, O. Funny you brought this up as I just purchased a Harbor Freight Chief Air Hammer for $129.It is the 4 inch barrel and this thing is a monster. Anyway I hope that you have a good air supply because these tools use a lot of air. Best wishes with your future purchase.

One of the guys who I used to work with had one. I no longer work with him as he recently retired. As far as the air hammer was concerned he liked it but it had to be rebuilt prematurely. Not sure why but just a warning it may not be the most long lasting option.

AFAIK Mac is rebranding those. I have the original ones.


They require a quick change chuck to use, otherwise there are no balls to use a guides to keep the bit straight. They work well, but the non-rotating channels need cleaned up with a roloc wheel occasionally if you want to just sit and beat on something for 60+ seconds straight. They will wear/deform and make removal of the bit difficult. Tweak them enough, and you need to remove the quick change chuck and knock them out.

I had bought an MT2916 earlier in '20. It's a bit different then a 3050 Snap-on, better in some ways. I was going to make a review but have not gotten to it. It's a bit heavier then a 3050, weight wise, about the same bulk. It does seem to be more "recoil-less" then any other air hammer I've used in that it does not thump back in your hand the harder it hits.

I run Matco or Ajax bits for the most part, I do have one chisel from S-O that is non turning and it works well, but pricey.

I still use a CP717 .498 the most.
