Stanley Black & Decker owns both the MAC and DeWalt brands. I was checking the MAC website and noticed an announcement that their latest MAC cordless tools are using batteries compatible with DeWalt 12 and 20 volt Max batteries.

Has anyone actually used one of the new MAC tools? Are they just relabeled DeWalt products?

The 12v 1/2 inch impact doesn't give any torque specifications and is only $199 for the bare tool.

The 20v 1/2 inch impact also does not have any torque specifications and the kit (tool, charger, 1 battery) is $599

I like the compatibility bit but hardly worth it to pay tool truck price for a DeWalt tool

Any thoughts or experience with these products?

I own the 1/2 inch 20 v impact and there's nothing a snap on impact can do that mine won't. My coworker actually had trouble getting an axle nut socket of with his and mine zipped it off.

They're made for MAC by DeWalt in the same plant. Supposedly they're a little more powerful but I sincerely doubt they're doing any special manufacturing of electronics just for MAC.

I believe DeWalt and MAC are "assembled in USA". Im sure the batteries are from Asia. I've never seen USA made lithium power tool batteries from any brand.

Older DeWalt cordless tools (pre 12v and 20v max tools) were originally made/assembled in USA, more recently in Mexico. Recent purchases of 18V XRP batteries were with Japanese made NiCad cells.

12v/20v Max Li Ion tools that I have seen were made in China. There was a thread recently about DeWalt now assembling cordless tools in the USA again. I don't know which line / models.

I suspect the best we can hope for is assembled in USA of global and domestic components. (but our manufacturing friends in Mexico, Canada and other countries that at least pretend to be semi-democratic are ok by me too)
