Has anybody seen the new mac Autometer? PN - EM112. Looks interesting and maybe even handier than a regular dmm. Currently have a SnapOn EEDM525E which is the new one with the color display and don't mind it but ran across the mac. Whats everyones thoughts??

Visit mactools.com punch in em112 and a short video will pop up.

I don't think it measures amps/miliamps so, it can't test for parasitic draws.

It appears to be the latest version of a multimeter that will do some things for you but, won't do everything. I think you would better off with a Fluke Automotive meter and then master how to use it.

both mac and SO will require a premium payment, over the just fine fluke models.

I just keep using my old Fluke and it still performs flawlessly for everything I do.

YMMV

Not sure why someone would want this vs say a Greenlee dm200 or 210 for less money. I don't know the street price of that meter but it has really limited features for the money.

My thoughts are NEVER to buy a DMM from a tool company - you'll just get a rebranded, overpriced, imported lower-grade unit.

As stated, just get a Fluke and be done with it.

Thought about the fluke, but the places around here that sell are a monday-friday 8-4 kind of operation... makes it "easier" to go with the mac or snap on. been in the ag trade going on 6 years now with plenty of electrical dig under my belt. Typically we rarely see amperage/draw related problems. more so usually to find that good old broken wire somewhere.. strictly for that type of work would be why i am interested.

It rings up at 129 USD, bout 150 canadian with the exchange. paid over 300 CAD for my Snap-On, which has treated me exceptionally well. More so just curious if anyone had tried this new mac one out!

Aside from the logic probe (which is really not much of a feature) this seems like a very limited meter for ~$130 US. I don't know Canadian prices but as points of comparison from Amazon:

Fluke 101, just over $50

Small, durable and seems to all but match the features. No current measurement.

Greenlee (Brymen OEMed) meters MD-200 and 210. The 200 is ~$80 and the 210 is around $110.

These are very impressive little meters. Very durable, good feature sets. The 210 includes a temperature probe/thermocouple measurement ability.

I get the issue with not being able to make it to the store but if you can order online that should address that problem.
