Hi all. I've been a long time lurker here and spent countless hours (probably days) reading through the vast amount of knowledge in the Garage Journal Forums. I am from North Carolina and am starting the John Deere Ag Tech Program in January.

I graduated from my first stint in college with a degree in Computer Information Systems (knowing this wasn't what I really wanted to do) and am looking forward to a change of pace after working in corporate America for 3 years.

Would love to hear from any other John Deere/Ag mechanics on the site!

I can't tell you much about John Deere since i grew up and live in the city, but i've thought about painting some of my vises and tools green with yellow trim.

welcome to the forum and if you have questions just ask and hopefully one of the very helpful members will see it and be able to. or start a thread about it and teach us as you help yourself like i've done several times.

cheers

Hi wilkes, glad you came out of the lurker bin. I have always liked JDs, worked on them in a previous life. In '61 I worked as a mechanic, primarily auto but being in farm country worked on some of that. Coolest tractor I ever worked on was a John Deere 80, it was probably a 55. Rebuilt the engine, I still think of that, 2 cyl 470 ci diesel, there was a 4 cyl pony motor used as a starter. That tractor weighed about 10,000lbs. Just awesome and I don't think it was rated at more than 50-60hp.

thanks for posting, good luck in your career.
