Hi,
I've been lurking here for a while and this is my first post. I'm planning to build a Morton building 42x60. 42x30 garage, 42x30 recreational great room with kitchen, bath etc. 16'x8' garage door on garage end and a 16'x8' slider on the living end(it faces the lake) with a 14' garage door in the dividing wall between living and garage areas.
1. By code does the living area floor have to be higher than the garage floor? If yes, how much?
2. Does code allow a garage door between garage and living areas?
3. Can I stack 2 cars(Corvettes, E-type Jag) with 10' walls?
4. Are floor drains necessary?
5. Should I use a vapor barrier under the concrete?
Thanks:thumbup:Mike

Regarding the stacking question are you going with standard trusses or scissor trusses? Scissor allow more headroom as you move towards the center of the truss.

You need to add your location!!!

Code is local on living in a barn or not. Live in the county here, help youself. Live in the city no way, not likely to get even the structure permitted in thd first place. Thats all local jusitriction stuff. Big shop with living quarters has been done, is being done around here. Big door between the living room and shop sounds like a great idea lol.

Building codes vary by location, before anyone can answer your questions you need to share your location.

In my community, some of your questions could be answered by the building department or a competent general contractor.

What is a Morton Building, if they are pre-fabricated, I am sure their engineering department can advise you.

In every jurisdiction I ever heard of they require a self closing fire door between living area and automobile usage, depending on your location, and application. It's probably a good idea.

Please update your mystery location in profile.

Floor drains are interesting, can be nice or a headache.

I would definitely use a vapor barrier under the concrete. The thicker the better. 6mil is probably minimum, but 10mil will stand a lot of foot traffic without getting raggedy.
