new member from Bloomington IL

A friend of mine sent me a link to this site a while ago and I've been checking it almost daily ever since. I spend a majority of my free time (when not working or on husband duty) working in the yard or in the garage. I am a licensed landscape architect, but I have been working in car sales since we moved to IL from GA in July. (moved for my wife's job)

We just moved into a new house with a 3 car garage, which provides room for our two daily drivers and the fun car, a 95 miata. We are just getting settled in, so the garage is not a priority, but at least it is a blank slate.

I did manage to specify a few items during construction so the garage has a 220 plug and is plumbed for gas heat. Now all I need to do is buy a heater and learn how to weld (to justify using the 220 plug!) I've attached a photo from construction. There is a nice bump out in front of where our two daily drivers will park, so that will provide a nice area for my work bench and storage.

I'm looking forward to getting input/ideas as my outfitting progresses.

Welcome! Bloomington-Normal is a great area; I went to school at Illinois Wesleyan and grew up 30 minutes from there. Aside from Lucca's and Elroy's (both great places), Avanti's and Jim's Steakhouse were a couple other of my favorites...I miss that town.

What dealership do you work for? I may hit up the annual Ford show this year that Dennison puts on.

Your garage looks nice...should be a fun project.

Welcome to the site. Both of my brothers have lived in Bloomington/Normal in the last few years. One went to ISU and wanted to stay local at graduation but couldn't find a job. The other would stay there but he's taking a new job in New Orleans in a few weeks.

Thanks, we're liking B-N so far, we've been here since the end of july. I'm working at BMW of Bloomington & Sam Leman Mazda, it has been an interesting change from Landscape Architecture. My wife is a professor at ISU, seems like a nice school.

This weather leaves much to be desired, though... I just noticed we're getting some snow blown in from around the garage doors, that might have to be fix number 1.

Yeah, nuthin like the winds that blow across the plains up there. My bro in law works at Mitsu and sometimes gets bummed out over the winter weather.

Welcome from just up the road. The snow coming in, dont wast too much time trying to fix it. When the wind is this strong, you find leaks all over, and the garage door seal, well, it just wasnt designed for this weather. Ive got snow drifts on the inside of my brand new high end double hungs windows right now... and it happens everytime it snows and the winds are blowing up to 50mph... welcome to the pleasuredome !

Welcome to the GJ. Bloomington/Normal, been there many, many times through my employment. I have some good friends there. In many ways, other than the winters, it is similar to where I live. You will like living there.

Welcome aboard...As for the door seals not, ahem...sealing. There are at least 3 threads about how to seal from the inside also. 1 option I used is Post #29 here http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87183&page=2

Another option is http://www.sealeze.com/ They will send you samples.

240v is not required for welding. A simple Mig welder can do a lot, and run on 120v. But 240v is great for a good compressor, or a table saw runs much better.
