Hello all and Happy New Year! I came across this site as I was surfing the web for idea's on recommendations from people who have built garages. I am looking for any input good or bad or what you would do differently if you had the choice to build again. I am planning on building a 24x24 garage this spring just for the "toys" with possibly a rack for two cars. I currently have a 24x24 attached garage now that needs to be finished inside. After reading some posts on this site I feel the information will be very helpful from the posts and help from other members. Thanks for such a great site and hope to meet some new people of the same interest.

Hey Will, Welcome to the GJ!
I'm just west of O'hare and built a 22X30 on my little piece to property back in 2001.
I'm landlocked now but thought "Big" and found a way to get everything I wanted.
Sure with I had known about the GJ back then.
When building a garage for a lift, think 12 ft ceilings, a door that hugs the roof when lifted and at least 60 amp service.
Heated and insulted is a must!
I insulated my garage with foam panels and covered with pegboard.
Using a mini split system for tempering of the interior would be my first choice too!
If your reworking the driveway, think a deiceing system in the cement slabs.
I would have added a drain system in my garage and a water supply for washing in the winter. Plastic curtains are cheap.
Anyway, looking forward to hearing some of your ideas for your build.
Remember, think of everything you could have and try to incorporate it into the design, even if you think it is overkill!!!!!!
You got a great resource here!
