Hi guys & gals!

I'm a new member from Durham, NC. Day job's at Duke University, in the Center for International Studies. When I have spare money (not the case at the moment), I drive a SpecE30 race car with NASA Mid-Atlantic/South East and the BMWCCA.

The Shop
My wife and I (we're newlyweds) bought a 1988 construction house in April 2006, with a single-car 24'x14' garage. The garage is has a bare concrete floor, but is otherwise finished, though a little lacking.

This summer, I'm planning on adding a number of wall cabinets (more than likely, Ikea), better lighting (right now, it's lit by a solitary dual-tube 4' T12 fixture and a T8 bench lamp), better storage for racing wheels and equipment. Floor coating would be nice, but it would involve moving all the equipment out of the garage for longer than I'd prefer. I'd also like to expand the concrete apron outside the garage, to store my trailer on-site.

The Cars
My garage queen and daily driver is a black 1987 BMW 635CSi -- a car I fell in love with at first sight, back in 2003. Mostly original, the mods are limited toward improving handling and acceleration.

The race car is a 1987 325iS, originally a dandruffy Delphin Gray, it's now Mazda Mariner blue with Peter Brock Shelby Daytona-inspired le Mans and rocker stripes, and numeral roundels.

My wife drives a 2007 4Runner SR5, that's both her daily driver and our tow vehicle. (As a nurse, 4wd is a necessary evil.)

Dearly Departed
My first car was a Caspian Blue 1965 Mustang convertible, 3spd/289/2bbl. Nearly twice as old as I was when I got it, it was my pride and joy until it was recently sold out from under me, in the midst of my parents' divorce (my father claimed that he'd re-titled the car under my name on my 21st birthday... he hadn't and his lawyer convinced him to sell it for half the purchase price/at least a quarter of its current value.)

Wishlist
I'm also on the lookout for a decent rolling tool chest and/or a semi-portable top chest.

As a kid, I had hoped to inherit my maternal grandfather's gear (he was a fireman on the Pennsylvania Rail Road, running J1s and K4s, until he lost an eye in a car accident. He owned a Marathon station in Columbus in the 50's and 60's, then worked as a master mechanic at the larger Ford dealership until retirement), but his tools and chests were stolen out of his garage shortly after he passed away.

A mid-rise, open-center scissor lift would be fantastic, but it's not going to happen anytime soon.

--

I grew up around here, spent 10 years in D.C. working on, *ahem*, national security issues and can turn a wrench pretty handily (not to mention being a pretty good cook).

Just wanted to say hi.

Welcome!

I'm in the Triangle area also. Live just south of Cary. We have a few things in common! I had a caspian blue '65 fastback Mustang that I sold several years ago and have now replaced it with a caspian blue '65 fastback... except this one is a K code solid lifter car. Have a '67 convertible mustang that will be restored for my wife to drive as a fun car. I'm also into bimmers, my daily driver is an '02 M5, which I've had at VIR once for a BMWCCA HPDE. Hope to go back this September.

If you've happened to stumble across any of my posts, I'm a rabid snap-on tool fanatic! I have a triple bank master series box with a load of snappy tools in it. One can never have enough tools! :lol_hitti
