Just dropping in to say Hello.
I heard about this forum from one of the motorcycle forums I frequent, looks like a nice place to spend some time.

I am in the process of setting up a small shop in one bay of my 3 car garage and have come here looking for ideas and advice.

I do have a 40' X 40 shop but it's currently being used for car storage by a "friend", so until I get that back I will be working out of the main house garage.

Cheers,

I live full time in Canada, left for a few months back in 1980 and never made it back permanently. I make the trek back there almost every year usually around Feb/Mar when the tourist season is almost over.

My shop sat empty for 18 months after moving to Langley and I wasn't using it so I gave it up for a good cause, otherwise it would be full of bikes by now.

Kiwi: NZ is on my bucket list and if i didn't have 5 great kids i probably would have stayed someplace there or in that half of the world in the winters and summers in PNW.

post pictures when you are able and if you need help just ask. using the paperclip above where you are writing your posts is the easiest way to post pictures. GJ lets you post one at a time and up to 7 per post. we also like pictures of parts of the world we don't normally see that others have so we can question them instead of just googling them up.

cheers

Kiwi: Well you have the picture posting process down pat. framed in center of page of GJ, clear, big, and awesome bikes and garage and probably house with the monuments at the end of the driveway. (I was a Realtor for 30 years can you tell). great looking boys and happy to hear they like to help.

just a tip on the outside paint booth which is like the one i used until joining GJ. Until you build one (or buy one) i was told I could use a big appliance box which really helps with rattle can painting to keep the wind from blowing half the can onto other things or the neighbor's car. fold it up when not in use. another option is to make wood frames with plastic spread across them and screw them together to make the box. sorry i don't have pictures handy, but let me know if you need a few more details and i'll try to find some for you.

I'll try to keep an eye out for your thread(s) and see what i can learn and maybe help you with.

looking good KIWI

Hello Drivesitfar, I have usually painted in the AM as it's less windy then but the humity can be a bit high so between waiting till the wind is low enough and the humity being below 60% I didn't get many days that I could paint so it would make sense for me to build a temporay spray booth.

I like the idea of a plastic shelter, that I can fold up or hide away when not in use.
Still need to buy a new compressor and the rest of the gear to be able to paint safely without risking any health issues from the fumes.
Lots for me to learn before I buy anything to do with setting a spray booth.

Cheers,

David

Kiwi: i made a quick search and couldn't find the member's wood framed plastic paint booth or enclosure that screws together so i came up with this idea that can be expanded on by searching a couple YouTube videos. this guy used galvanized pipe for corners and uprights and Velcro for the cloth sides.

I'm actually planning on using a shipping crate I found on Craigslist that is about 4 x 3 and 5 foot tall on a pallet that i can store next to my shop under a tarp.

I had to help because i can't tell you how many rattle cans I used and had paint not very often hitting it's intended item.

please post a link to your thread here if you can if you are not posting thread in garage gallery that i check fairly often.

good luck
