Hello All!
I'm in the planning stages of turning an existing 30'x50' metal building that was used as a barn into a full workshop. Been reading alot the past few weeks and have gained lots of knowledge already! Look forward to getting the shop completed!

I have most of the floorplan laid out, now I'm working on electrical and lighting plans

Peter

Welcome aboard Peter! You're in the right place for sure. I hope you enjoy it and find everything you're looking for.

I dig that floorplan program and couldn't help but notice the red ... Rocket??? :D Wow.

BDR: looks like a nice space and i like your drawing. does it have a cement floor or are you planning on pouring one?

if you are planning on spending much time in there you might want to put in some windows and insulate it before you start filling it up. we all have good intensions of maybe doing that later, but once we start putting our stuff in there the project just becomes too big later.

welcome to the group and ask questions if you have any. if you go in your GJ profile and click on Avitar you can download a picture to come up under your new GJ handle BlueDodgeRam.

Hello Peter and Welcome to the GJ. Nice shop that you have planned and there is a lot of good info here to help you get it set up. Good luck with the build and post pictures as you go.

I'm just using AutoCAD (I'm a mechanical engineer so I use it daily at work). I guess the "rocket" you're referring two is the Bendpak XPR-10 2 post lift I'm planning on installing. I have everything drawn in layers. Red is for all "tool/equipment". Thanks!

Planning on pouring a floor, 5" thick. I am planning on insulating the building for sure (most likely just vinyl faced batt as I can't afford the spray foam). I may throw a window in here or there if budget allows for it.

Will do on the avatar.

BDR: great plan and i like that you are pouring your floor 5 inches thick. if you pour it when it's hot make sure to keep it damp so it doesn't dry to fast and crack.

i'm guessing your Avitar might be a big dodge ram truck? or your barn or ?? you can change often as some do and I've had the buffalo made out of scraps and old tools for a while now, but I've had a few others in the past.

have you looked at the Max Jax lifts because a lot of the members seem to like it or do you already know what lift you want to buy?

Definitely going to keep it wet for the first day or two.

I use a picture of my first dodge rockcrawler on another forum im on so maybe.

I have not heard of those lifts. I will check it out. Have looked at Mohawk, Rotary, and Bendpak. Mohawks are nice and beefy but expensive and probably more HD than I need. Was planning on going with a Bendpak XPR-10. Plan is to get a lift that has enough clearance between the posts so I can still have a drive through building even with my trailer attached.

BDR: i don't have room for a lift, but when i move in a few years i will probably get the Max Jax because i can either install it permanently like Denwood did in his garage remodel or like in the video where i can move it on rollers out of the way when i don't need to use it.

ask questions if you still have any and have fun catching up on the reading. also one thing to mention because we have a lot of lurkers that can't post is to tell you to maybe put in a "great thread" or some comment if you read a thread and didn't have any questions or wisdom to share to let the posters know somebody out there is reading or cares what we are writing.

cheers
