My Garage Build Thread

Hi all -

I am new here but wanted to share some of my garage build pictures. I started last winter cutting trees along where the new drive would go and clearing the area where the building will go.

Here are some pictures. The driveway will go right over the shed in the photos. I took the shed down a little later. The stacked wood is only a portion of what I ended up with. When all was said and done, I had about 10-12 face cord of firewood, mostly oak.

I like the layout of your shop. The white building with the red roof and red wainscot look wonderful on it.

Re: My Garage Build Thread

How do you like the brackets for the posts? I will be doing a similar build on my shop. Why is there not a 2x10 for the trusses to sit on?

I am curious about the epoxy coating. Did you do it yourself. I just purchased some land with a 30x40 building and want to do an epoxy coat as well. Some of the systems are so expensive. What was your experience with this brand? Came out super nice though

I love the brackets for the posts. There is one on each side of the post. I did not want to bury the posts, so this worked out great.

The tops of the posts are notched for the trusses, so there is no need for a 2x10 along the top. The trusses are 8 feet apart.

I really like the epoxy floor. I hired it out, as it was just too big of a job for me to do. I am glad I did too. The installer spent 4 days on prep. First he shot penned the floor to remove the sealer. Then he came back with a diamond floor grinder to fix some spots he wasn't happy with. Finally he went around the whole perimeter with a hand grinder.

Once the floor was prepped, he applied one coat off primer, followed by the color coat and flake. And finally a clear coat with glass beads anti skid mixed in. All told, he spent seven 8 to 10 hour days here.

It was expensive, but I only wanted to do this once.

Awesome. Thanks for the write up. I have debating on doing mine before i move all of my stuff in and my car. Seems to only make sense to do it now. I had no idea that it was that much prep work though. Makes me think twice ha-ha. Thanks again. Love your shop. Been watching closely to borrow ideas for my 30x40

Yes I was also wondering why there was not a "truss carrier" on th poles supporting the truss. Maybe not required in your local. Your build looks GREAT! Nicely done!

My advice is to coat the floor. It is the best thing I have done to the shop so far. To clean the floor, I just hose it down and use a rubber squeegee to pull it to the floor drains. Looks like new when I am done.

Also, there is no concrete dust, so climbing around on the floor to get under the tractor is not a problem.

The guy I worked with offered a large range of coatings, from just a clear sealer/hardner to the epoxy to all kinds of different textured coatings. There were lots of options, but after working in the building with the sealed floor vs the house garage with a bare concrete floor, I will always pick the sealed floor.

Be careful when it gets wet. Can get very slippery. Anti skid additive is a must.

Perfect. Thanks will be looking into some options. Seems like now is the time to do it. I am gathering up electrical stuff now.
