Hi, my name is Charlie and I now live in Port Allen, LA after the great flood destroyed my home. I'm starting over and I've been cleaning what tools I have left that are salvageable. I lost all my power tools but managed to save a few pneumatic tools and all of my hand tools.
I've spent the last few days wire brushing the surface rust that began popping up on my sockets and wrenches then oiling them to keep them from getting worse. I may never buy another table saw because now I have very limited space to call a shop....maybe I will buy a sea container or build a nice wooden shed....who knows. I'm still putting things back together so I'm not rushing anything yet. I may be commenting and questioning you all to see what my best options would be. I understand a wooden shed is better for metal object storage because of the humidity factor....but metal buildings are better for the long haul. I will be storing my tools and possibly my motorcycle as well...when I'm not cruising the back roads!
Anyway, I'm 54 and have a sweet wife that puts up with me, two dogs and several grandkids. Thanks for having me and I'll be checking out some shops/sheds and pole buildings.

Welcome aboard and my heart goes out to you. I got smacked by Katrina and just avoided getting it again this time myself. Several friends in your shoes.
A suggestion to you - if you really have a lot of tools that are rusting up, buy a bucket of Evapo-rust. I'm not gonna say there aren't cheaper options out there, but the Evapo-rust 3.5 gallon bucket comes with a soaker basket. Just drop your stuff in there and take it out a few hours later (longer if the rust is very bad) and they'll be cleaned up.
Evapo-rust is pH neutral too, so no worries about using acids.
I know it sounds like I'm a shill for them, but I've used it to clean up rust on tools I snag at garage and estate sales and it saves me a lot of time versus cleaning each tool individually.

Best of luck in Port Allen putting your life back together. It's been 11+ years since Katrina and I still have days where I feel like I'm living in the shadow it cast on my life.

There is a huge garage sale in Abita Springs this weekend where half of St. Tammany parish comes out to sell things. There will definitely be some good tool picking out there!
