Wet sanded the primer, and first coat of Sunshine Red applied. Once it dries I can paint the bottom, then wet sand, then do it again 2 more times. So far I'm pleased, the stripes will sand out.

Wet sanded 1500 lightly and a second coat. Smooth and glossy I’m loving it!

It’s pretty crazy how a $2 item can add to the results. Better grip, easier to keep a line, don’t feel my hand hurting anymore. Sprayed on much more evenly. You’d think they were a gimmick but I’m impressed.

the rustoleum products are pretty decent for cans, I always used gravity feed spray guns and epoxy/2K paints as far easier get nice durable finish, is amazing what some of you guys achieve with cans though .

For a can job I’m really satisfied. Especially for something that will be neatly pushed and locked into a corner for most of its time with me. It will more than do the job considering where it was

Big day today, got 3 coats on the bottom and then grinded the cover door and side table. Then added a coat of primer to those. I got excited to move the box so I picked up the casters and mounted them. Finally the big box can move on it's own again!

Just need to add a coat of polish to the box, then onto the rest of it's pieces.

Anyone know where I can procure some friction guide tabs? Some of them broke while I was removing the sliders and I can't seem to find anyone who has replacements.

Call Snap On. I just restored several of these and they sent me brand new slides because mine were bent or broken.

Side tray and lower drawer cover panel were prepped and primed yesterday. Got a coat of red on and waiting for a quick wet sand and more coats. Then onto the side box before tackling the drawers.

Thinking I will want to put some vintage decals back on here when it’s done though.

37 now. When I was about 6 years old I had that red hot and rolling sticker on my wall. Mom's bf was a tech and gave me All the stickers!

I possibly would if looked proper authentic vintage and had some connection to stickers being used .
I not a sticker guy so also more than happy without and just brand logo emblem .

I did know a guy who bought quite a scruffy krl as all he could afford truck branded, he stickered it up over couple years so almost a mosaic of stickers, done it with some thought and effort and was pretty much an art in it's own right and pretty amazing looking box for what it had cost him .

Anyone have a suggestion for cleaning the guide rails. I need to clean/degrease and remove some very light surface rust from my own stupidity of air drying them the first washing of all components.

Snap On has warrantied some parts and is sending me a few new rails for the ones that were bent, was not sure if it was necessary to replace all of them so I'm being honest/modest in my request to them. That is if they can send me tabs to put on the other guides, otherwise I will warranty those other pieces as well.

I used dawn and soaked my friction slides. they didn't have any rust on them though. You could also try CLR or Limeaway i used limeaway on some of my slightly rusty tools that cleaned them up really well. then just paraffin wax on the rails and the drawers slide like new.

white vinegar good for rust removal/treatment .
if not very bad a worn/soft scotch pad with wd40 does a good job .
coat the slides with beeswax, parafin wax or similar on assembly .

Picking up parafin wax as well, what is the application rate? Thick slather or lightly rubbed onto the rails?
https://www.amazon.com/Paraffin-Household-Gulf-Wax-Pack/dp/B00D8N3NT6/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1539283846&sr=8-9&keywords=paraffin+wax

Started cleaning with a hard bristle detail brush and Pruple Power degreaser. Then today got two boxes from SO who came through in flying colors and provided me ALL new rails for both the roller box and side cabinet warrantied!

Time for an update. Life got in the way with two little kids and everything that goes with it. I finally ramped back up and got all the main drawers painted and the sliders in with paraffin wax and some silicone lubricant where it still was a little tight. Final assembly of the drawers for the roller will happen tomorrow, then I can work on the side cabinet door and drawers.

I spent time going through my tools and junk and getting rid of and organizing for the move as well.

I do have a question though, is kaizen foam the preferred? I had some simple nonslip mats in my smaller box and hated it. I want a place for everything and was tempted to get 4 sheets of this foam in two different depths for the smaller/larger drawers. Seems easy enough to cut and peel layers but I’ll defer to some opinions. Thanks and stay tuned.

Nice job! My take on the foam is that it limits your organization. It’s great at first, but you lose room for the foam and it’s difficult to add to later. I prefer racks for wrenches and organizers for sockets. There are tons of different ways to go about this.

Thanks! It was a labor of love for sure 90% done with the cabinet drawers and door coming up last. Wondering if Snap-On will provide a replacement latch mechanism like they did for the drawer rails.

I thought about that yesterday and posted separately as well. I'm taking a different approach and grabbed a roll of mod box liner for the drawers and will use things like socket straps and the like for what I am ultimately going for.

I almost picked up some magnetic labels but those seem frivolous and not worthwhile. At the end of the day I will essentially have all of my tools in the garage between this cart, the two stack boxes, a smaller craftsman cart with top box, my Husky mechanics box, and another cart and top that was left by the last home owner. It's a big mish mosh of colors from red, black, blue, gray but will look nice stacked against the back wall.

Instead of gluing on your removed vintage stickers, you might experiment w/this stuff:
https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-H...zed-Magnetic-Metal-Sheet---12-x-12/p/80768650

Easy to work with, contact cement & a roller to get the sticker to lay-flat, trim the edge before or after, whatever works best. That way you can prevent damage to your color coat after all that work, yet still have the stickers on the box.

I didn't salvage the stickers, used the heat gun and they peeled and broke up. What I do plan on adding is some stickers I've gotten along the way, Milorganite, breweries, parts. But I'll put them on neatly and where I feel necessary. I'm really digging the clean look.
