Good Evening everyone. Stumbled onto the site from a google search and decided to register and ask a question. Looking for some insight and or ideas.

I'll describe what I'm looking for and see what members suggest. Looking for a standalone structure that needs to be climate controlled on the inside. I live in NY so the winters can vary. Temps need to be between 68 and 78. So I'll need some kind of heating/cooling system?

Nothing large. Maybe 20ft x 20ft roughly with 10ft ceilings inside with concrete floors. Would you recommend some sort of pre fab steel building structure, wood structure, pole barn? Or something custom built?

Just started my search but have no idea what would be the best bang for the buck. I'm in no way a contractor so me doing it is out. I could probably insulate the structure but thats about it. I don't even have an idea on budget yet. Could I get one for 10K? 20K?

Thanks for any suggestions.
Dave

That is a similar size to my garage.

Mine is 2x4 wood frame on floating slab.

Heat is electric (but our rates in Quebec are better than yours in NY).

Very roughly, here are values of what it took to build myself:

SITE PREP: $2K
SLAB: $3K
ELECTRIC: $1K
FRAMING & SHEATHING: $3K
GARAGE DOOR: $1K
WINDOW & MAN DOOR: $500
TRUSSES: $1K
ROOFING: $1K
SIDING: $1K
PAINT & STAIN: $500
INTERIOR SHEATHING: $1K
KNICK KNACKS: $1K

So about $15K, not including my labor.

I built a "glorified carport" type building 30x40 for 16k, but without insulation, and I am en electrician so that was 'free'. Do anything you can yourself, and it will be cheaper. Bonus, you can learn new skills.
