Hello Forum,

Looking to get any information regarding a Parker #486 vise recently purchased.

Particularly interested in year/period of manufacture & original color.

Haven't found a lick of information on the web about this vise yet.

Thank you.

OK, thanks for the information. Previous owner said color was black or a dark maroon purple & that he believed it was manufactured in late 30's or in the 40's.

Know any way to confirm period of manufacture?

Thanks for your reply.

Mark: i'm not the resident Parker vise expert, but yours looks like an early 1900's one and best guess 1920's. it is missing the pipe jaws and if you might need a pair made maybe one of our members KMScott has some in stock or can whittle you up some on his mill for a fee.

welcome to Garage Journal and i hope you stick around to learn a few things and teach us what you know. always good to have another member that has a 200 pound vise sitting on his workbench.

yes please post pictures of your vise when you get it in your hands and maybe over on the Vises of Garage Journal thread the Jake mentioned.

You're more of a Charles Parker expert than I. Didn't know it was missing pipe jaws. Am new to vises & am going by images presented only. Am learning a lot on this forum. Got back to the previous owner, who said it did indeed have them originally, before he owned it.

Hi JoeFin,

Will definitely make note of your offer. What is a proper steel designation to use for this application? Do you have the dimensions of the actual pipe jaws made, or should I research this?

MARK: i'm subscribed to a lot of threads here on GJ and when your new post came out I had to smile. it's been 6 YEARS since the other member offered his help. if this works and he does it for you I have to see your pictures and postings.

glad to see you are still alive and kicking and maybe a PM to Joe might make him smile too if he's still around.

cheers and good luck
