"New" messages not new

I like when you look at a list of threads and see the ones that you've participated in and it tells you that there are new messages. But it seem like if I haven't been to that thread for a while and click on it because it says "new", it starts out at the first message again.
Is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong?

Part of the new forum software, click on the "Jump to new" button at the top right of the first post to go to the latest post that you haven't read.

I have been hitting "mark forums read" each time I leave.

Same thing happens to me and as Jagman says just hit the jump to new button. I have not tried mark as read method.
