New Milwaukee batteries

My 18v Milwaukee batteries finally died. The drill and charger are fine, but after 10 years, the batteries gave out. I scored a great deal on a 2 pack of genuine Milwaukee batteries that are 5.0 amp hour units. My old ones were 1.5 amp hour units. Plus, to make it even better, I had some rewards money on my Visa, so they cost me $2.50!

I almost fell for buying Milwaukee replacements, that weren't genuine Milwaukee. The ones I got are genuine Milwaukee, shipping from Milwaukee. I read some horrible reviews on the non-genuine batteries. While cheaper, they reportedly just didn't last.

Just wanted to pass it along in case anyone else needs new batteries.

At $130 a battery, (18v 5.0 amp hour) the foreign ones don't look that bad. I've bought a couple of 28v China specials. They seem to work ok and at 1/2 the price of "genuine Milwaukee" I can live with ok.

I got them on Amazon. It said the seller was Milwaukee. I got a twin pack for $156.

$130 a battery? I just purchased 2 brand new genuine M18 5.0 batteries for $115 for the both of them. No complaints from me on $58 a battery for 5.0s.

The 5.0 batteries are all over ebay for super cheap. A lot of people are breaking kits.

AvE's tests show the chicoms don't hold up in the cold. As I often need to use my tools in temps below freezing this is enough reason for me to avoid.

Not only that, but when he pulled apart one of the knockoff Milwaukee ones it had a name brand battery cell, but they were used, not new, cells.

I know Makita tools record if you plug a non-Makita battery into a tool and can deny warranty service because of this (the computer in the tool records this). Wouldn't surprise me if Milwaukee also does this. For an old tool, not a big deal though.

mad german, do you mean M18 or just the 18V batteries? I think everyone here is talking about the M18 batteries, but the 18v older batteries are expensive and you won't get them from anyone breaking kits.

Hi. I bought M18 RedLithium XC 5.0 batteries, a twin pack. Item number 48-11-1852. It's the 48-11-1850 batteries, but sold as a twin pack.

I think that's what my old ones are. I called Milwaukee to verify that the M18s will fit and was told they'll fit my drill.

Now I'm concerned I might be getting batteries that won't fit. I gave the CS rep at Milwaukee my drill model number and was told the M18 batteries will work. I'll double check in the AM.

Current drill: 2601-20

Batteries I bought: 48-11-1850

I was told the new batteries will work. I had a look at the V18 batteries. They have a completely different base than my current batteries. My current batteries look just like the M18s, but not as large of a battery pack. Same base and attachment.

When I get the new batteries, I'll post the results.

I've said here many times before that I swear I read this on Toolguyd (re:Milwaukee) but have not been able to find it since. I even recently sent an email to Stu inquiring about this but never received a response. Maybe I am losing my mind.

Quickly scanning, Makita specifically mentions the use of knock-off batteries as a warranty void, Milwaukee makes no mention of it. It would have to be specifically cited to comply with the Magnuson–Moss warranty act. In other words even if Milwaukee has the capability they cant deny warranty coverage.

If you buy the replacement batteries from a B&M store, they should be fine. I got mine from Amazon.

Got the batteries in and they fit just like the originals. They're a bit heavier, but that's to be expected. They work great. It was definitely a good buy.

M18 is M18 is M18. Any M18 battery - regardless of age, physical size or amp hours will fit any M18 tool.

There's a tiny exception w the hex light and 9.0's, but a retrofit is available from Milwaukee at no charge.

M18 is 100% cross-compatible. Period.
