I use my Mikwaukee inspection camera a lot more than I expected, but it's frustrating to use. I can never tell which way is up, for one thing (I marked the outside of the camera with a line designating the top, but that only helps before you stick it into something).

Looks like Milwaukee just announced their updated flex model, which has a knob you can turn to change the angle on the head. It also has a removable display, and some other nifty features. The only bummer is that it looks like it sells for over $600: https://www.zoro.com/milwaukee-vide...1842681/?q=231521&psrid=151163211#sku=2315-21

I guess I'll have to wait until they start showing up on eBay.

Unless you rely on one daily to make a living that's too pricey when there are so many cheaper alternatives. Everybody carries a smartphone these days and they all have better displays than those inspection cameras--as well as capture images and video. Why duplicate that technology in another expensive gadget?
My wish list has an $80 bluetooth borescope waiting for me to pull the trigger. There are even cheaper wired snakes that plug directly into the phone.

I can't stick my phone into a 1" hole and look around to make sure there aren't wires or pipes before drilling. ;)

Price out an Extech articulating wireless high def 640x480 borescope and get back to me...

The camera head on the Milwaukee is probably sized for durability of the articulating parts.

He's talking about a camera attachment you can buy for $20 to use with your phone. The phone screen and OS would be the part duplicated on a stand-alone unit.

For $20, that's on my to get list even though I already have a dedicated one.

Yes that's the exact one I'm talking about.
The $20 USB ones won't do 720p.

I've had this for almost a year. I bought it to look in the gas tank of my truck to see if the float had sunk on the fuel sending unit (it had). Since then I've used it to help me relight the pilot on my water heaters a few times. This by itself has made it worth the price for me. The pan around the WH blocks the view of the pilot light. Before I had the endoscope it was an adventure in contortion-ism to get the pilot lit.

Another use is to take pictures, as an example getting a picture of an ID plate on a product that you can't get to with a normal camera or phone. The endoscope software lets you screen capture images or video. From there you can view, email, message them to somebody else.

I use it with a Galaxy S4 and the video lags behind about a second. I'm guessing that the processing power of my phone is a little lacking.

I bought one last week for my android phone or Windows PC. It was from China, cost UK£7 and is only 5mm diameter including the tiny LEDs around the lens. Very impressed for the money. If you don't like it as a tool, then it's fun for kids to look at their teeth or ears or whatever.

Like this....

A co-worker showed me one he got for $15 with a 25' cable on it. It was the 5mm diameter one, and it looked great on a laptop display. You're not showing full 1080p on a phone anyway (and I use an iphone, so these wouldn't work with my phone).

But because the cable is floppy, they're not all that good for shoving into a wall cavity for instance, unless you tape it to something else.

I have a snap-on BK8500 I like the way it works but it's not cheap !! but it also has three camers, but the idea works great and the you can send the pictures to your buddy and he can see what you are seeing. money well spent. I don't loose tools any more or can't find bolts.

Here is the one I bought. 5.5mm to look down the injector hole of a diesel. Works great for 10 bucks.
