New Milwaukee drill switch problem fixed

In January I bought a new 2606 drill to replace my old one that I had for a few years. The old one still works good its just beat up looking so I gave it to a friend. My new drill worked good until I used it Lol the LED light would just flicker and the drill wouldn't do anything when I pulled the trigger unless I pushed the fuel gauge button on the battery. I probably should of sent it in but I didn't want to wait for it so I just took it apart and looked at it. It turns out one of the wired was crushed to the heat sink or whatever that piece of metal next to it. It must of got hot and started making a connection shorting it out but I moved the fire away and folded it so it won't touch anything and it seems to be working good now. First problem I ever had with any Milwaukee product.

That white spot on the metal is where it was stuck. I looked all over on the web but i couldn't find anything about this kind of switch problem.

as a milwaukee fan i own well over a hundred milwaukee tools from coring drills to pro press tools on the high end to cordless drills and lights on the inexpensive end. In the last two years i have at least one cordless tools away for service at any time. Always covered by warranty and we have enough backups its not a problem. Luckily there corded tools are still built to last

If Fedex wasnt two hrs away I would've sent it in. I just voided the warranty on this drill. I have the first and second gen impact drivers and the 1/2" impact wrench 2762 for cordless tools. They've all been good. So have all my corded Milwaukee tools. Good reliable tools.

Well, you got it fixed.
When my old Black and Decker compact 3/8 inch drill finally died, I thought I'd go out, treat myself and get a Milwaukee drill. Then, at the store, sticker shock set in. So I bought a 3/8 inch Black and Decker drill, a former display model with a level in the back end of it. I've been using it for the better part of 20 years and it's still going strong. So on a cost/benefit analysis...

Haha ive got an old black and Decker circular saw I still use. I think it was made in the 70s. These new tools have so much computer parts on them im sure that's why there are so many recon tools out there. Im sure this drill just had the wire move into the wrong place when it was assembled it wasnt easy to get back together.

Thanks farwest...switch on my 1/4" impact started doing the same thing last week...bought a replacement to finish a job with the intention of trying to repair old one as a backup. You've giving me a good place to start looking for the problem. First problem I have had with any Milwaulkee tool that I haven't abused, dropped or ?

I was going to buy a replacement switch but it cost almost the same as the drill did.

Their e-service uses Fedex but you can send it to them on your dime any way you choose. I used to mail to the nearest service center w USPS before I figured out the e-service.

But yeah, your approach was superior in this instance- problem resolved!
